How to fix broken iphone 4 back glass?

Hi,

Has anyone fixed their iphone 4 broken glass? Is it done in apple stores?

Heard its cheap only $199 and glass breaks only if dropped from more than a feet.

Unfortunately I dropped more than a feet 😟

Thanks,

You can instead of replacing the glass buy a zaggskin. It will hold the glass together and cover it if you don't wanna pay the fee to fix the glass right now. I mean its 199 for any out of warrenty work. So if you break the phone now and then break the front glass later then you go get them both fixed for 199.

Also did you buy the phone with a credit card? as some of they provide accidental coverage and will replace the device for free.

Mine fell from 3FT onto to the front screen and shattered. Went to the apple store and had to pay 199+tax for the replacement phone. My old 3G and 3GS (or any other phone I had) never did that. I was really disappointed that I had to pay that much for a replacement especially since my first iphone had a battery that went dead after only a couple of weeks.

France, Apple Store Velizy 2, changement/remplacement du dos en verre de l'iPhone 4 pour 29 € sur rendez-vous au Genius Bar :

1) I went first to Opera Apple Store, Paris. After queuing there you speak to a guy holding an iPad standing at the entrance who can't give you any information (not even the cost to change the back glass) but whose only job is to take an appointment.

2) So I exited, used the Page Jaune app, search for the Velizy Apple Store's phone number, called them, someone answered (Opera Apple Store doesn't take phone call neither). The guy told me that I will pay 29 € (he knows the cost) and explained me to download The Apple Store app, then point to Velizy Apple Store, and set up an appointment with the Genius Bar.

3) I got an appointment in 3 days, I'll let you know, if something goes wrong.

I just went to Apple today after dropping my phone last night. The entire back shattered and I was convinced I was going to have to pay a ton to fix it. They originally said it was going to be $30 and I was prefectly happy with that, but it turned out they didn't charge me at all! That and I only had to wait like 10mins for it to be fixed. Go Apple!

How long did you own your phone? I am normally very careful to put my phone in it's case after I use it in my tomtom GPS mount, but I just recently returned from a work road trip and I grabbed my phone and a few other things and was trying to juggle all my stuff when the phone fell (after a 4 hour drive). I've owned my phone since August 2010 though.

😟 I hope they don't charge me.

Changing the back glass is dead easy and takes a maximum of 5 minutes:

- remove the 2 pentalobe screws

- slide the glass out

- put the new glass in

- screw your screws (or replacement phillips screws) back

done!

I am not sure is this voids the warranty, but it should not...

changing the front glass is a bit more engaged, and involves removing the back glass, removing the camera, the microphone and other stuff then remove the whole mother board and stuff

Btw, this WILL void the warranty as there are tappered screws inside (the ones that fix the antenna framework to the front panel, from memory, I watched a video to change the button... never got to change it, as I found a way to soft-reset the button sensitivity).

So this operation is both more involved, more prone to errors and accidents and voids the warranty... no wonder it is more expensive than the back to change...

without counting the fact that the front panel is an active screen, while the back is... static... ;-)
