iTunes upgrade not compatible with iPhone 3G?

The iTunes upgrade has wiped my iPhone 3G clean of all music and applications. This did not happen to my husband's iPhone 3GS. I have attempted several syncs and my computer keeps on freezing on this screen:

I posted this on facebook, and a fellow 3G user is having the same problem. Her iPhone 3G was wiped clean, and her wife's 3GS can sync.

Has my iPhone become obsolete just from making this iTunes upgrade? Can I download the previous iTunes so that I can have my phone back?

Nope! No answer yet! Someone suggested registering it as a new iPhone. I did try that but it did not work. I noticed that if you download an app (like facebook) directly from your phone, it doesn't disappear. However, I don't want to have to rebuy everything that I already bought.

This just *****. I am so aggravated because I'm leaving on a 2 week trip in a few days. If they don't fix it, I won't be able to sync for the next 3 weeks.

You don't have to re-purchase your apps, nor re-download them (but you can if you like).
The apps may have disappeared off of your iphone but they likely did not disappear from itunes. Just resync it.

In the highly unlikely WCS that your apps have been deleted from your computer, you can re-download them without paying again since your account remembers that you've already purchased them.
