Cannot be heard while making calls

Starting last night my new iPhone 4 started acting weird mid-call. I was in a conversation and the other person couldn't hear me. I could hear them clearly and was responding to the "Hello...HELLO's" but they couldn't hear a single one. I tried again this morning and no one could hear me. I tried multiple numbers. I rebooted and it worked for one short call, then reverted to not working. I restored this evening and it seemed to work fine for several calls, now again, it's not working. Anyone else experiencing this or have had it happen in the past?

Hey, I have the same concern also. But only when the first couple seconds of the call. I receive a call, and all I here is "hello...hello?" Then a couple seconds later, they here me just fine. When I first answer the call, I can here them perfectly, but they can't. =\ Kinda annoying.

This problem hasn't affected me, but others have reported proximity sensor issues where the screen goes dark but is still active.

Maybe your ear is hitting the mute button?

Have you tried RESETTING NETWORK SETTINGS? This may help. It's in your preferences settings.

I was on a call to my mum on monday and she could not hear me half the time so with this and also the poor reception when you hold it the RIGHT way i was reluctant but handed my iphone 4 in to the apple store for a full refund. They are aware of this problem, I was also having problems with 3G half the time it used to switch down to edge :S

I have checked to see if the mute button was pushed, it wasn't. It also seems to happen when on speaker and on bluetooth. I tried resetting the network settings and that didn't seem to help either. I'm getting really agitated.

Exactly same problem. IPhone free from contract, bought in London, spanish Vodafone carrier, user of iPhone 3GS, 3G and no problem in the past. I hear perfectly, they can't hear me, call continues until someone cut it. How to solve it?

I still haven't found any solutions. It worked all day July 2 when I was out of state, and when I got back in my home state it stopped working again. It could be coincidence but I have no idea. It hasn't worked at all today. I took it to AT&T and they said I could return it within the 30 days, but they have no phones to replace it. They said I could also try waiting until the firmware update, who knows when that will be released though.

I have the same problem with my phone. It has happened to me multiple times now, and I can't figure out what is causing it. When it does happen, I try to restart my phone, reset the settings and it still won't work. At some point when I keep trying anywhere from 30 mins to 1 hr, it will begin working again. This problem is becoming very annoying and I'm wondering if it's a software, network or just my phone being a lemon problem.

Could be the proximity sensor issue is causing the phone to "mute." Next time this happens, look at your phone and make sure that "Mute" isn't engaged.

It is not proximity because I have it in my tomtom car kit. It is not connected with signal - I have it even at full bars as well.
I did a restore, I changed simcard but problem remain.

It is the carrier's problem. I had the same problem with ATT. I called them and they removed the registration of the iPhone to their network, and then ask me to make a call again to re-register. It fixed it. They know it is a common issue.

it happened to me yesterday afternoon, after 14 months of using the iphone 4. I could not be heard by receiver, or caller. Even if i set it to speaker mode, the receiver end is met with a mute.

I off and on the phone and it works in the evening. Today, it stop working again, i can't be heard by receiver or caller.

what s the solution?

I suffer the same problem. Maybe in 10 calls, 5-6 times, people can not hear me, but I can hear them clearly.

I made the call again, it may work, it may not work.

I thought it might be the network problem, but it is not.

I thought it might be the SIM card issue, I replaced with the new one, still problem remains.

Now I thought it might be the software problem, before I didn't had this problem, since I updated with IOS5, it occured.

I also heard it might be the hardware problem, but I don't think so, because sometimes it worked properly.

I've found many many complains on the same issue, maybe Apple Inc should replace the problem Iphone?

Replaced your sim card and it stil doesnt work? Hope this issue is fixed soon
