Safari won't remember window position

Does anybody know how to get Safari to remember it's window position? I have it positioned beside my Mail window - all very neat and tidy - but the stupid thing keeps moving when I restart! It doesn't happen every time but when it does it offsets to the right and down as if one or more windows were open behind it. From what I understand, this is a long-running (very annoying) bug.

Try going to System Preferences>General and near the bottom you'll see a check box "Close windows when quitting an app" as here:

make sure that is unchecked, come out of preferences and then try the windows again. For me it worked most of the time, I have been advised to reinstall El Capitan to see if reinstalling makes sure it does it every time. Hope that helps.

Try holding down the Option key when moving a Safari window to where you want it — by the way, this also works in making a new Finder window open where you want it to. FWIT I don´t have this Safari window problem, but I´m running Sierra 10.12.6 with Safari 10.1.2. I think you´re still on Snow Leopard, so how about maybe updating to the latest OS that your Mac Pro can run? Time consuming, yes, but it wouldn't harm to try and it could help! Hope to have been of help! Cheers, Ian.

Ha! You'd think it would work like that, wouldn't you? I'm afraid it just doesn't. I keep replacing the window in the position I want it but it keeps moving to the right and down to the position a second (or third) open window would be. It doesn't matter how many times I move it back, it keeps happening and I can't see any kind of pattern to it. It appears completely random.
