importing samples

Hello. I'm new to this forum. I have been trying to import samples of mellotron from a cd I purchased to be used as a software (or any) instrument. I have an M-Audio keyboard. The cd has individual samples of each key. I would love to be able to use this in Garageband 2. Does anyone know if and how this is possible? Thanks.

Do you know what format the sound samples on the CD are in? Depending on the format, it may or may not be possible to import them into a GarageBand-useable format.

This is an important distinction.

Please report back.

If all else fails there is a commercial, GarageBand-compatible Audio Unit Mellotron instrument that gets rave reviews in addition to being endorsed by Rick Wakeman. It's called the GForce M-Tron, and it retails for US$100.

Importing isn't the issue, an imported audio file can't be used as an instrument. One needs to process audio files with an app to turn it/them into a SoundFont as Silas pointed to.

<sigh> if only there was enough time in a day ... One could have a LOT of fun creating software instruments (of "interesting" recordings) --HT %-)>
