Hello. I'm new to this forum. I have been trying to import samples of mellotron from a cd I purchased to be used as a software (or any) instrument. I have an M-Audio keyboard. The cd has individual samples of each key. I would love to be able to use this in Garageband 2. Does anyone know if and how this is possible? Thanks.
I believe you will need other software to make this possible. From what I understand of it, the Polyphontics GB app might be just what you are looking for.
Thanks alot, Silas! That software looks awesome. Now I'm getting all sorts of wild ideas thinking about what else I could do with that. Not to mention the Mellotron.
Do you know what format the sound samples on the CD are in? Depending on the format, it may or may not be possible to import them into a GarageBand-useable format.
This is an important distinction.
Please report back.
If all else fails there is a commercial, GarageBand-compatible Audio Unit Mellotron instrument that gets rave reviews in addition to being endorsed by Rick Wakeman. It's called the GForce M-Tron, and it retails for US$100.

Importing isn't the issue, an imported audio file can't be used as an instrument. One needs to process audio files with an app to turn it/them into a SoundFont as Silas pointed to.
<sigh> if only there was enough time in a day ... One could have a LOT of fun creating software instruments (of "interesting" recordings) --HT %-)>
The cd has aiff. files for each note, as well as wave. and Motif. I tried out the demo version of the software, and it seemed to work (though I wouldn't be surprised if I was to be dissappointed again). What specifically is your concern? I'm a bit new to all of this>
yes. I started thinking about all sorts of odd sounds I'd like to turn into software instruments. Not knowing how to make an aiff. file is a roadblock, but maybe at a later date I'll get into that. First things first.
