No GPS fix on iPhone 3G after iOS4 upgrade

GPS working fine before upgrade. Now neither google maps nor tomtom can find a sattelite. I appears that the OS and the GPS receiver can't communicate. Did restore w/ backup several times to no avail. Then did hard reset - no success either. According to forums on other Navigation app sites many people are having this problem. Anyone else find a solution other than the hard reset (which appears to work for some), resetting restrictions, and turning off 3G? Only solution that I see now is to downgrade to OS3.1.3.

3G, iOS 4, GPS

I am having the same problems. However, I think I may have found a fix, at least in my case.

First, I turned off location services for all of my apps in Settings. Then I rebooted the iPhone (using Standby at the top and the home key simultaneously, hold them until the phone powers off. Then power the phone back up with the Standby button).

After having powered the phone back on, I went back into Location Services and turned the location service on for only the Apps I wanted.

Granted, this does not restore the GPS accuracy I had before the 4.0.x upgrade, it gets me to within 50 ft instead of 6000 ft.

Hope this helps others.

I'm still amazed that we have this major flaw in the operating system and we are all discussing it on the Apple support forums and not once has a representative stepped in with a resolution or an explanation to what is to be done about it?
I personally think it's disusting that we have forked out all thus money for apps we cannot use and Apple just don't seem to care?
If you are reading this as I'm sure you are it's about tome you chimed in and let us know what you are doing about this problem.
Enough is enough.

My GPS was fast and accurate before IOS4 and while it can work eventually, mine now takes 3-5 attempts and several minutes to fix a decent position. Google maps used to be so useful but is rendered 90% unreliable with IOS4.

I am a shareholder, have bought plenty of Apple product over the years and constantly evangelize to others. Of course, it best not to spook the markets by admitting to every little mistake but people aren't stupid so it really undermines my feelings and support of the brand when Apple just ignore or deny fundamental issues like this (and I have experienced similar examples before.)

Apple, please think about softening this corporate policy of never admitting there is a problem. Or better still, quietly issue a fix for this IOS4/3G bug.

it appears that Apple does not give a **** what happens to their users, the only thing that matters here is money that leaves everyone who bought an iPhone. They think that everyone has enough money to buy the iphones needed to be satisfied .... That would be ideal for them. no matter that we have problems or if the iphone is useless after the update.

I have this same issue, except it happened once before I upgraded the OS also. The GPS works fine one day, then it suddenly stops. It will get an approximate fix based on cell tower triangulation, but the actual GPS receiver isn't functioning. Last time this happened i had to get a replacement iphone. Good thing thing i have the apple care so i can replace phone every 6 months when the GPS fails. Thing that ticks me off is my wife's iphone locks the position every time, and has for almost a year.
