Uninstalling and Installing iTunes - Error 2330

I wanted to upgrade to iTunes 9.2 and started this via the upgrade option in iTunes. At the end of the install i got Error 2330 and the install rolled back. Tried to uninstall iTunes and got the same error message at the end of the uninstall. Tried to download 9.2 from Apple website and install that - same error message. Followed various suggested fixes, including deleting iTunes folder from Program Files and tried again but i still get the same error message.

Can anyone help me sort out this mess?
Many thanks

i had the same problem - tried to uninstall over and over and kept getting same message. Also was unable to remove itunes due to a corrupted file within the itunes setup library.
I called apple for help but was told that i'd have to pay for that kind of support as itunes itself is not covered and my ipod is out of warranty.

After trawling through some help sites all i had to do in the end was do a chkdsk (which was my first - i feel quite proud of myself) which repaired the corrupt file so i was free to remove & re-install.

this was the link that helped me - good luck mate

Thanks for taking the time to answer. This was one of the things i tried and i got the message about scheduling chkdsk to run when windows restarts. I did this but when Windows restarted, chkdsk didn't run. I'm sure chkdsk will be the answer to my problem, but i can only get it to run in read only mode. So looks like more trawling of websites to solve that problem is needed 😟

Sadly no. When i try to uninstall i get the following error message "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2330". When i try to install i get a message saying "The older version of Apple Application Support cannot be removed, contact ....", then towards the end of the install I get a message saying that installation of iTunes could not be completed.

I'm trying to run Recovery Console to help with chkdsk problem but don't have XP CD

Thanks for your help

That sounds a bit like we might be getting a couple of different problems at once. Possibly they could both be deriving from one batch of disk damage (affecting the msis for both iTunes and AAS), though, so we'll try having another go at the chkdsk first.

If something is running on the C drive, that can suppress chkdsk from running (or force it to quit too quickly. Security software scans and startup items are probably the likeliest culprits with that. So I reckon we should try seeing if we can get a chkdsk to run on the C drive after performing a clean boot:

Does a chkdsk after a clean boot go through any better?

Drat.

Okay ... does your 2330 message mention a specific file and filepath? If so, what's the precise text of that?

(I suspect we're dealing with an Apple Application Support file here, since for an early-enough version of AAS, a bug in the installer could produce the missing .msi message if a file was missing or possibly damaged ... but thought I'd doublecheck to see if an AAS file was being mentioned in the 2330 before diving headlong into those troubleshooting techniques.)

Sorry about the delay, grumps. I've been brooding.

Okay ... we'll proceed on the assumption that you've got a damaged AAS file or directory, and that you've got either an AAS 1.0.1 or 1.1.0 in place, and the disk/file damage is enough to trigger the early-version-of-AAS bug where if a program file was missing from AAS, the AAS installer returns the missing .msi message.

Although I never had to employ it out here in the forums, I had a plan mapped out for how I was going to deal with it if it ever cropped up for someone.

Unfortunately, that plan has gotten more difficult to implement, because it involves the Windows Installer CleanUp utility, and Microsoft pulled the utility from their Downloads Center on June 25. So first we have to hunt down a copy of the utility.

Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for *at least version 3.0* of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)

If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.

Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any *Apple Application Support* entries and click "Remove".

Quit out of CleanUp. Now we'll have to try to get the damaged AAS program files out of the way, so we don't get caught by the 2330 again.

In My Computer, open Local Disk C: (or whichever drive your program files are installed on).
Open the Program files folder.
Open the Common files folder.
Open the Apple folder.

Right-click on the *Apple Application Support* folder, and select "Delete". If Windows won't let you delete the folder, try instead renaming the folder *Apple Application SupportOLD*

After deleting/renaming the folder, empty your Recycle bin and restart the PC.

After the PC restart, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the 2330 this time?

(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

Hi fellow kiwi,

I have the same problem with mine, but it appears to be quicktime related.
I cannot run a chkdsk /f but can run a chkdsk. There are two errors at I$30 (or maybe $I30!)
I am also having problems installing OOs defragmenter and wonder if the problems are related. The problem I am having with this is related to privileges. My Event Viewer won't log. I am a user with administrator privileges but I think I don't have correct privileges, hence the problem with chkdsk (?).
The reason why I think it is Quicktime is because I cannot uninstall it. I have tried reinstalling Java as someone suggested.
I am using Registry Mechanic to fix my registry and rebooting straight afterwards.
If you have the link to version 3 uninstaller, can you email it to me.
Quicktime is in the C directory.
