Hi, I would like to buy an iPad and I was wondering whether OpenOffice.org works on iPad....
OpenOffice is not available for the iPad at this time.
...I even want to know whether iWork comes free of cost or we have to buy it. How do we load iWork or is it preinstalled???
[You have to puchase iWork|http://www.apple.com/ipad/business>.

*iWork for iPad.*
iWork productivity applications make it easy to create beautifully formatted documents, stunning presentations with animations and transitions, and spreadsheets with charts, functions, and formulas on your iPad. Based on the iWork suite for Mac but completely redesigned for iPad, these apps — Keynote, Pages, and Numbers — are the first desktop-class productivity suite designed specifically for Multi-Touch. They’re both easy to use and extremely powerful. +_*And they’re available for just $9.99 each from the App Store.*_+

For the most part, you primarily get apps for the iPad through the iTunes App Store, rather than downloading & installing like you would on a laptop or desktop.
