iOS4 Problems with iPod Touch 2nd Gen

Hello!

Since installing the iOS4 in my iPod 2nd Gen I had many problems, the OS makes the iPod slower, the auto-lock function doesn't work, once I tell it to auto-lock after 1 minute, it doesn't, it just stays on all day, I have to do it several times and lock it manually so it stays like that.
I have also had problems with syncing music, since it doesn't play the songs, but is not a constant thing, some days are one songs, some another and is not always the same song.
Many Apps are also failing but that goes to the App developer.

I have the same iPod Touch and here are some of the problems I've encountered since updating to iOS4;

Sluggish controls and slow loading of settings,

Games and apps crashing,

Safari crashing when loading pages with images or when running youtube video,

iPod restarting: I tried opening a pdf-file in iBooks with the effect that the ipod first locked up completely and then restarted. Tried it several times with the same result every time

Id say all these problems are symptoms of a low amount of free Ram ie iOS4 is a Ramhog...

I too have had problems with iOS4 on my 2nd gen ipod touch. The main issue is the appalling battery life since the upgrade. Apparently this is due to the wifi being on all the time even when it is not being used. This issue is something that Apple need to address VERY SOON as my ipod is now not performing as advertised. Come on Apple test properly before releasing upgrades to the OS.

Same exact problem for me as well...add me to a very long and growing list of people that aren't happy with Apple over this.

I can sit 2ft from my Airport Extreme and the signal will vary from full to 1 bar and back. Before iOS4 it was full bars no matter where I went. I could walk down the road 3 houses and still have 1 bar.

Not at all satisfied...I gained features I won't use and lost functionality.

I had similar problems early in my ownership of the iPod Touch and Airport Extreme...at the time a few settings (channel, WPA, etc.) fixed the issue, but this time it isn't helping.

In the infamous tone of Nelson Muntz from the Simpsons..... HA HA!

Apple pulled a Microsoft. They certainly need to take iOS 4 back and continue to work on all the quirky issues! As one person posted about the battery life... you are right, it is due to the wifi staying on even while the iPod is asleep.

This OS is the worst thing Apple has put out to date. It really seemed like a good idea at the time, but I don't see what the point is of upgrading. My number one pet peeve with the iPod touch is not having the ability to multi-task. Now they come out with an OS that allows that opportunity, but I am now required to go out and spend $400 for a new iPod after I purchased the latest and greatest (2nd Gen)less than a year ago!! WTH?

Because the iPod touch 2nd Gen has what i would call old technology only partial things in iOS 4 will work. I own an iPod touch 32GB 3rd Gen. and iOS 4 works like a dream I see no difference in performance or battery life. The only difference is that I am using it more often. I love it. The reason you are having problems is because the 2nd Generation iPod touch has a processor that can not handle the multitasking and other features that come with iOS 4. I have no idea how to get 3.1.3 back on iPod touch 2nd Generation. I do NOT recommend getting iOS 4 on your 2nd Generation iPod touch stick with iPhone OS 3.1.3.

That is all fine and good except Apple pushed it 2nd gen owners as a supposed upgrade. Had we been given a disclaimer stating that it was going to half break most of our apps, we naturally would have declined the upgrade.

For the record, G2 touches did not get multitasking. All we got Folders and access to ibooks, along with a few minor tweaks, here and there. There is absolutely no excuse for how terribly slow ibooks renders PDFs, considering Looksee did a much faster and better job of it on my G1 touch.

All I really cared about was folders. It would be nice if Apple could tweak IOS4 for G2 ipods to allow for folders without decimating our Ram. If they can't then give us a convenient way to get back to an OS that actually works properly.

In addition to above I got problems with A2DP (stereo audio over bluetooth). After IOS4 update connection to my Nokia HF-905 breaks immediately, this used to work perfectly prior to update.

Intrestingly enough some A2DP devices work i.e. my new Schuberth SRC System is apple to stream music (but misses playback control) with IOS4.
