Q: Glitch and end of single track burn?

Here's an issue I'm having with Waveburner 1.6.1 running on OS 10.6.2.

When I burn a disc that contains only one track, I get a digital glitch at the end of the song. It kinda sounds like a corrupt fade or something like that. The song plays fine in Waveburner, it's just the burn that is bad.
The odd thing, is that when I add a second track, the glitch does not occur. I have tried adjusting the burn preference settings , like CD text, ISRC etc, but that doesn't help. I even tried a different burner, different burn speeds, I turned off 'write as session', still with no luck.

I imported the track into iTunes and burned a disc with no problems, but this is not a long term solution, because I'll need the ability to add ISRC codes in the future.

Is anyone else having this kind of problem? Any suggestions?

I don't want to have to buy Bias Peak or DSP Quattro just to solve this one issue.

    Hey Ed,

Sounds like the same problem. I did try another burner etc and still had the pop.

I guess I'll have to pull out my old mac and use and old version of Jam if I want to burn a single song with ISRC.

I hope someone at Apple solves the problem!

Are you sure the other burner supports CD DAO (Disk at once)?

    Hey Ed,

Yeah, the other burner supports DAO. I used that one for years, before I got my new Mac.

I've been mastering for 18 years now, and haven't had this much trouble with any other brand of CD burning software. (Digidesign's Masterlist or Adaptic/Roxio's Jam)

Been using Logic since version 1.6, but I only recently moved over to Waveburner.

My work around has been to set up my old Mac for single song burns, but I would prefer to keep everything on one box, if I could.

Elswhere in this forum I received a tip from Curvebender. This is what he wrote:

    This is what I've discovered:

If you're burning with ISRC-codes and CD-text, WB (1.6) will create a loud click at the end of the disc.

    To avoid this:

    1. Inspector/General/Add Silence At CD End: just add 3 seconds here, it shouldn't ruin the way you've imagined your final product.

    2. Burn at highest speed!! Yes I know this sounds odd, but it's what happens with my sessions. If I burn a CD at slower speeds (4x, 8x, 16x) the click is there. If I burn at 32x, the click is gone...

    Hey Ed,

    What a glorious day!

Adding silence to the end of the CD worked!

I tried 3 seconds, then experimented with a reduction of the time.

I got it as low as 37 frames (a half second) with no click. Also, burn speeds didn't have any affect on the results.

I'll use the half second 'buffer' from now on - 3 seconds is a little too long and some labels don't like multiple times for tracks that use the same ISRC code - i.e. a single release versus the same track on an album release.

This is a reasonable work around, and hopefully, Apple will address this issue in the next update.

    Thanks for the help!
