So I upgraded me and my wife from our iPhone 3G 16gb's to 16gb iPhone 4's on Tuesday. First we upgraded both of our 3G's to iOS 4.0 using a PC with iTunes 9.2 with no issues and loved the new features (at least the few that were available on the 3G).
She's in PA right now and I'm in SC so we tried FaceTime right away. She used it outside the house in PA and I used it upstairs in SC (router is downstairs) and I don't think I could have been more blown away by the quality. We've been using it ever since.
I can't say enough about the speed of iPhone 4 too. I use it to track my finances, having to switch between apps like pocket money, docs to go and calc multiple times and iPhone 4 made it work with ease.
I'm truly sorry to hear anyone is having problems and maybe grateful that I am not, but to Apple: keep putting out these great products! I love seeing all the other smartphones 2nd rate attempts at trying to replicate the features.
Good luck everyone and try to appreciate the craftsmanship and engineering behind this handset rather than bashing it.
There has to be more satisfied and maybe even impressed customers out there, right?!?

My apologies, I didn't mean to make you lose that loving feeling.......BTW most people are not complaining about a little defect, but rather that they spent 200-300 and expect it to at least work as good as their old phone (iphone or not), signal and data considered. Don't bother replying as I am moving on. (says the man to the apple employee) I am a huge Apple fan myself, and on the RARE occasion I have a problem I would at least like Apple to state they will look into the problem ( I won't go into the details). But again, sorry to change the momentum and point of this thread so I will move on to find a solution to my problem so I don't have to return it.

Yes, the phone is AWESOME!

BUT, I've had all three previous generations unlocked with T-Mobile before just giving up the rat race and recently going with AT&T. I've NEVER had a dropped call with T-mobile-EVER. Now, I've had two sense we've had them----just 3 days. My wife works in a hospital downtown Seattle and I've never had a problem with reception in there until switching to AT&T. The phone is fine.

Aside from slight signal loss when holding it the "wrong way", its perfect. I just wish AT&T would improve some...thats all. All this BS about lawsuits and the like are non-sense. Get over it. Get a bumper or a case. The dropped calls were NOT from the antenna issue. they were from AT&T's reception in that area of downtown. A Lot of her co-workers have iPhones of all generations and all experience the issue there.

Anyone know of any way I can get a case faster then three weeks though? Anyone have any blue or green one's they want to sell? This phones too gorgeous to let it go naked too much longer and Apple's ship time for them is ridiculous.

I wanted to get an iphone 4 and was looking forward to my first iphone.

I even had my order ready to buy online but I just can't pull the trigger.

The thing is Sprint and Verizon are making great phones now that do give Apple real competition.

I am a Mac user so the iphone makes sense.

I wonder if the iphone 4 problems are being overblown or if its really more widespread and will require a recall.

In opinion Way, Way over blown. Once people jump on the negative band wagon they love playing the game. And more so because they have a Win-blows machine and see Apple as a threat to there pocket book.

100% satisfied.

So we think the problem might be partly due to high expectations for a moderately-high priced device, am I correct?
The way I see it is that you can't train your dog to be obedient without a little training yourself.. Same with a high-tech device like this... you have to know how to use it properly and know its limitations before setting your expectations.
I have high expectations for things I pay good money for myself so I completely understand how anyone must feel if they are having legitimate problems with their new phone.

All I know is mine works like a charm, and with a marginally better signal than my previous handset, a 3GS, I know there are phones with greater issues, maybe ours do have it but in a minor way, so we don't really notice as much a others, for a start I am on 900mhz 2g right now so its not even the same frequency as some others, I am not anyway experienced enough to know what, how or when. But my phone works great, if it was not for this forum and its maniacal attitude, and the press coverage I would have never known it was an issue, and would be oblivious. The trouble is now people without issues may start doubting their purchase or their motives for keeping the phone, I have, and I know that's not how it is for my handset, but the power of suggestion is very great on mass.

Apple could loose a lot of custom from people with genuine issues anyway, but also from those with fear of having issues, those who are in doubt and are seeing something that may or may not be an issue, this could be any slight bug now, its gotten that out of hand people are seeing issues because everyone else is, so they must have it on their handset also. This is psychology 101 at play, the psychology of suggestion.

We have to say our phones work, or we are lying to others who want one, and to ourselves if we are not careful. There are two sides to every coin, we are the flip side and with 1.7 million handsets out there, and a frenzy whipped up by anger, disappointment, and the media circus about law suits, let alone suggestion. This whole issue is now is now verging I believe on becoming almost out of control, like this forum has become, with people at each others throats because one person has hardly any issues and the other is damning them or refusing to believe them, all sense has left and a mob rules mentality is forming, all over a Cell phone! God help us if it was something really important.

This situation is not good, not productive and does not help people with orders on the way who are trying to work out their next move, and I must admit Apples silence is not helping either.

Some people have real problems. Apple needs to fix it for those people. But the actual number of people with problems is a tiny percentage of all users. It appears bigger than it is because except for you and a few others, people with no problems don't even visit the forum so you never hear from them. If you visit a hospital you would think that everyone in the world is sick. This is a hospital.

I'm sorry that some people with iPhone 4's or who have upgraded to iOS 4 have not had good experiences. But this would be true for any product you buy. Visit the Android forums, or HTC or Nokia forums to see for yourself. Or the Verizon forums if you think that AT&T is evil and Verizon is the savior of the world. It would be a real eye-opener. I have a Verizon device, and I spend some time in the Verizon forums. It isn't pretty.

I've been happy with all of my Apple products since my first LC 24 years ago. I can't say the same for the Windows products I've had to use. I had an original iPhone that had only one problem with battery life that I fixed myself in less than a day. I've had a 3GS for a year that replaced the original (sold it on eBay for more than I paid for the 3GS) and it's been a dream the whole time. I'm even happy with AT&T's coverage. It has occasional glitches, but so does my Verizon MiFi. I'm happy with it, but it has given me more problems than the iPhone. And I have connectivity problems with Verizon's network also.

My wife and I have two iPhone 4 phones, and living in Washington, DC we have good AT&T coverage. We do not have the antenna problems others have. We got the bumpers to protect the phone, now sandwiched in glass. Before we got them we had no reception or dropped call problems.

I know we are fortunate as there are many others who have real problems with their phones. My own brother, who lives in an area that has shoddy AT&T coverage had to buy a micro cell to use the new phone in his house. He has never owned anything but Apple products, and he is a very big supporter of Apple. His experience with the iPhone 4 has really tested his loyalty to Apple. I expect that his story is told many times over around the world by people who have these problems with iPhone 4. My heart goes out to all of them, because I wish they could have the great experience I am having with this new wonderful phone. And I have to say the fact that they do have the problems they have has mitigated to some extent the joy I have in owning a problem free iPhone 4.
