A software update will not fix the fact that when the the band on the lower left side of the phone is covered, it drops the signal. I have demonstrated this to several people in many different areas and it is still an ongoing problem with my wife's iphone 4. I am very hesitant to go forth with buying a second iphone 4 due to this problem and also its sensor issue that allows the users face to trigger the onscreen buttons. I think that if the demand is high enough for a recall, then it will happen. Apple can at least return the loyalty to its faithful customers who have made this breakthrough device such a success. Its really disappointing to see this unfold the way it has and Apple's responses saying its a software issue.

But they won't because it will cost too much. I find it offensive that 1.) they have offered this bulls**t response and 'fix' hoping that it'll quiet the media storm. 2.) that they tried to bilk an additional $30 out of every customer with that piece of sh*t case that serves little purpose than a meager attempt at covering up this egregious flaw.

How much could that piece of sh*t cost per unit?? $30/customer is absolute theft. It covers the one part of the phone that you cannot actually break. HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE APPLE?? Oh yeah, it's not meant for that...

Apple must respond IN FAVOR of the consumer- not the company or Wall Street. Ultimately it may cost a lot now but it will save the reputation of a company I love. They're not playing straight with their most loyal customers. Sad.

Dan, what "right thing" you are talking about? Apple already did the right thing - they dropped restocking fee. There's nothing else Apple can do except letting you return it. Apple can't fix it. Period. They can't redesign hardware, test it and manufacture, not in a month, not in half a year. It's unrealistic to expect. Just return yours. I'm keeping mine - I naturally don't grip my iP4 in a death clutch and anyway I can't reproduce the problem even if I try.

Stop production. And replace the millions of flawed handsets. That's the only RIGHT thing to do.

Really. Stop prevaricating for Apple. This is their flagship product. It needs to work for the purpose intended. Come on. It's a phone.

This is the biggest lie coming from Apple. Fix the problem with the phone hardware with iPhone 4. I got dropped calls all the time. Today, I was talking to my friends, I had dropped calls 4 times during our converstaion and we finally decided to quit. Steve Job, you made enough money. It's disgusting that you want us to spend $30 to get a **** stupid pastic case to hold the left corner of the phone? It's time for you greedy arrogant people to come out and announce the recall on this phone. This phone can make or break you, just wait and see.

Apple will HAVE TO GO PUBLIC with a good solution for consumers. This is truly going down the drain for them. When late night comedians are laughing at your product and a no-advertising consumer journal BASHES your flagship device. APPLE TO HOUSTON. "We've got a problem."

APPLE TO CHINA: "We need 2-million new iPhones. Oh, and we'll be sending a new design."

How do you know they didn't? iPhone 4 is in short supply everywhere.

Replace with what, Dan? There's no replacement, nada, none, zilch! They don't have a working iPhone 4 production ready design without potential death grip problem. It's impossible to do in a such a short time. Simple as that.

Apple already removed return fees. The only thing else they can do is to extend return period and offer a free case for those who don't want to return it.

I thought the same thing until yesterday (got mine on launch day). This was the first reception problem I had and was able to reproduce it every time thereafter. As someone said here if you don't or haven't seen the reception problem yet you will, because it's a design flaw. Im beginning to think they were right 😟

This is the "problem" plain and simple. Lack of communication. BP has tons of cameras at 5,000 feet sea depth allowing all of us to watch them live streaming. Just saying that a little update every few days over this issue wouldn't hurt. May even help.

Another thing Apple isn't doing well is communicating with their Customers. Everyone is in the dark with what is happening. It isn't hard to release a statement every couple of days!
