When people call an Apple store or go to one and put their name down on the list for an iPhone, they are put on the priority list (this is how an Apple employee explained it to me). When their name comes up and they get the email telling them their iPhone is ready, they are transferred to the reservation list. The transfer happens automatically.

That's how I understand the difference between the lists.

As I wrote earlier, I went into my local Apple store (Columbus,OH) on 2 days ago to see where I was on the priority list. I was told that they couldn't tell me but that the list was running 5 weeks ... I was on week 1. So I went to a ATT store and ordered one. The said it would probably be about 1 1/2 weeks.

This morning I got my email from my Apple store ... my iPhone is in ... some 5 weeks! So I called ATT and asked to cancel my order ... as I was still on back order. I was told - "No can do". What I can do is wait for the phone to come to my house and then refuse the order.

It's like my daddy use to say - "Sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you."

i found available 16gb black iphone 4 at a super Walmart that had them in stock for a couple of days. you might try calling super walmarts in your area - the stores are not permitted to hold a iphone for a customer so if you locate one be ready to go.. the information about the priority lists delays found in the discussions here and other websites led me to pursue the product from other sources.

Hallelujah. I am currently syncing my black, 16 GB iPhone 4. I picked it up at 1:00 PM today.

June 30, 9:11 AM, received the “We'll be in touch soon about your iPhone 4” email.

July 15, 9:56 AM, received Your iPhone is waiting at the Apple Store.

Other than the two emails, I received no other communication from Apple. It took 15 days for me to get my phone. I know three other people who got theirs today in other parts of the country as well. I think rather large supply was distributed today...just in time for tomorrow's press conference. God speed to all who are still patiently waiting. Hang in there.

P.S. I am bumper-less. I have tried very hard to replicate the "antenna issue" and have not been able to do so.

Got on the reserve list at the Boylston St. location in Boston on June 30. Got my "moving up" email on July 8. Still nothing about picking up though. Reserved at Legacy Place in Dedham.

iOS 4 has royally messed up my iPhone 3G though (it is SO SLOW!) so I'm getting a little impatient. I know the demand is high, but with "regular shipments", you'd think we'd be getting our phones sooner than later.
