Anyone NOT having antenna reception issues?

I got my brand new iPhone 4 on Tuesday. Incredible and outstanding phone. Never used a better one and until iPhone 5 comes out (if these antenna issues don't kill off the iPhone), I probably won't see a better one. But, my phone (like every single iPhone 4 I have tested) has the "killer death grip" side effects. It isn't even a death grip. If my pinky or some random part of skin just touches it, my reception drops 4 bars and leaves me with 1 bar on EDGE. I've been reading articles for a fix and it is a major growing problem. But, I have never come across an article with someone saying they don't have the problem when touching the antenna. I REALLY want to know if anyone DOESN'T have this problem.

Yeah, I was comparing loss of death grip and natural grip to "open palm". iPhone 4 & Nexus One. I'm sorry my numbers weren't clear, but I wasn't really trying to sum it up. It's really worthwhile to read the entire article and look at the charts.

They confirm 2 things.

1. iPhone 4 has the best reception of any iPhone Apple's ever made. Apple is correct in this assessment.
2. The iPhone's unique external antenna is definitely more susceptible to body interference than other phones, although all suffer from it to some extent. They recommend a case, like the bumper, for this reason.

I think you missed something.

They report that the new kit is better because it performs better at lower signal strengths. I think you may find that the best signal strength of the iPhone 4 not much better than a 3Gs at all...

Good page though; i do admit

that said; If you think about it; whenever you hold the iPhone 4 you lose 20 dB just in hand. even if it was 15dB better than a 3Gs on the table; it's worse in your hand...

Pity really

They are not unique in what they are. I think they are unique in the amount of attenuation achievable in the holding of the device...

If only Apple had spent less time placing the devices in pubs for us to find and more time testing the prototypes they may have laminated it a bit as that article presumed.

If I am honest; for Apple design, the exposed conductive antenna is only a half attempt at real design.

I suppose it gives them room for the iPhone 4S with added hand held reception though.

This is the section I drew my summation from:

It's amazing really to experience the difference in sensitivity the iPhone 4 brings compared to the 3GS, and issues from holding the phone aside, reception is absolutely definitely improved. I felt like I was going places no iPhone had ever gone before. *There's no doubt in my mind this iPhone gets the best cellular reception yet, even though measured signal is lower than the 3GS.*

I mean, any cell phone is going to do well in an area with strong reception. At least I hope so. It's how it holds up in spotty or weak areas that matters most, and in this regard the iPhone 4 is the best Apple's made. It's been that way for me in my usage anyway and their tests seem to show the same. In my company parking lot I only ever managed a "no service" on my 3G (can't compare to 3GS as I've never had one). With the iPhone 4, I can make and take calls in the same place.

Yet, despite this they maintain the interference issue is a real problem and they recommend a case.

I think the shame is (if this is in fact true), that this could have been completely avoided with a simple coating of some sort like a satin varnish that would be all but invisible. People claim that a dab of clear nail polish does the trick for them, so I'm sure there is a coating of some sort they could have applied that would have a great tactile feel and not hamper the finish of the metal in any way.

I LOVE MY iPHONE 4!!! no issues here. maybe the majority of people that have the issues have unlocked or jailbroken their phone...hmmmm? who holds their phone so tight anyway? i don't have a case or anything for it and it's working perfectly. i think sometimes issues with electronics have a lot to do with the user. sorry, just being honest. i'm still a loyal customer. wouldn't be caught dead using a "droid"...

I forgot to post in the original that my phone is not jailbroken. That is not the reason for my signal issues. And the problem doesn't occur every time I hold my phone; only when I make contact with the antenna. I have been reading through the responses to my OP and it's safe to say that some iPhone 4's do not have a problem. There are a few remedies it seems like, but the most popular one is to get a case. a thicker case but not too thick would do the trick on fixing it, because there is a greater distance between your finger, palm, or other skin is has more of a gap between you and the antenna. It has not been fully successful though. I ordered a case off of eBay which should be arriving soon. I will continue to post any home-made fixes or updates from apple. Stay tuned and I'll be sure to post anything significant as soon as it comes up.

I put a case on my iPhone 4 the day I bought it(why wouldn't you, it's made of glass, don't care how tough they say it is,). I have not had any signal problems with it in Cincinnati, OH. I am actually on vacation in Hilton Head now, and when I'm in the house, I have 1 to 2 bars of signal. I have made several phone calls with it only on 1 bar, and the calls have been clear and no drops. I took the case off and tried the death grip, and my phone still stayed at 1 to 2 bars. Personally, as long as the phone works when I need to make calls it can say no service ha ha.

My parents sold my 3GS on eBay and surprised me with the iPhone 4. They got up early to go to ATT and they got it there, but there were no cases at ATT and they sold out of the bumpers in minutes. That's why I didn't have a case on the 1st day. My case from eBay is on the way and I'm waiting for the Otterbox Defender. That is the most secure case for the iPhone.

Very good article. Its nice to see that not everyone thinks this apples fault and were not just a bunch of ******** fanboys. Apples iphone is the best tech purchase i have ever done in my life and this a sad thing that so many apple haters have hopped on board with it. I personally have had not one issue with my iphone 4. Not enough to get a droppped call or lose data because of it. If i do the death grip i do drop bars but when i am on a call i hold it that way and not a single problem. so.... more power to you apple.

This is my second iPhone 4. My first phone kept turning on when on my ear so while I was talking my face kept pushing buttons. Both phones also still lose signal strength when I hold them in my left hand. I am left handed so this *****. My iPhone 3GS worked fine how I held it. I am really thinking about returning my iPhone 4. It is not right if I have to pay a restocking fee (not sure if that is needed) with the problems I am having. I am really thinking about switching to a Android phone. I really like FaceTime but there is too many good phones to stick with my phone if my phone keeps dropping calls. I always heard about dropped calls but I never had a problem with my 3GS.

I received my June 15th pre-ordered 32gb iPhone 4 on the morning of June 23rd when FEDEX shocked the heck out of me by ringing my doorbell and dropping it at my feet. I have been running it since then without any antenna issues. I have tried and believe me, coworkers have smugly tried to get the antenna reception issue to duplicate. It could not be done.

I do have the proximity issue, but this forum thread is about the antenna reception issue. That I can happily attest to, I do not have. Speaking for another individual who bought two 32gb models on the June 15th pre-order day, he also has not reported the antenna reception issue either.
