Voice Mail Password Issue

For some reason when I updated to Version 4.0 my iPhone lost the pass code for my AT&T voice mail. I didn't remember what the 4 digit code was, so I went into my AT&T voice mail and set a new password. I went into Settings to input the new password but it asks for the original password in order to change it. How can I get around this problem?
Thanks
Alan

The 611 number calls AT&T. I don't have a problem changing the voice mail passcode with them (I've already done that as they don't ask for the old one before allowing me to change it), it's that the iPhone is asking for the original passcode before letting me input a new one and I don't remember it.

I appreciate your reply but I have to reiterate that I don't need to call AT&T as I can change the passcode through voice mail by hitting *89 on my home phone. The problem is not with AT&T but the fact that the iPhone stored the old passcode and wants me to enter it before I can change it and I don't remember what the old one is) The way AT&T voice mail works is that as long as I call from my home phone I don't have to enter a passcode. When calling from any other phone (including my iPhone) a passcode is required and the iPhone stores it.

I don't have a home phone so I don't know how AT&T's home phone and mobile voicemail integrate. Do you have a home number and a mobile number? The reason I say call AT&T is because they can remotely reset your passcode without having the original passcode. The iPhone stores the last correct passcode that the AT&T account is set up with and they can reset it for you.

Yes I do have a home and mobile number. To access my I don't see how AT&T can reset a passcode that is in my iPhone. The iPhone stores the number you enter so that every time it checks your voice mail it can access your AT&T voice mail. The only way to change the number that the iPhone uses is to first enter the original passcode before entering the new one and that is my problem -- I forgot it.

Same problem. No visual voicemail and couldn't remember original password pin. This worked for me no problem - I was actually shocked at how easily/insecufre it was. This was after I upgraded my 3GS to OS4. I don't remember the exact keys to press or sequence since it's now different that it works, but it's along these lines:

1. From phone keypad, hold 1 key to get voicemail menu
2. Choose Administrative options (or similar, maybe Pesonal first, etc.).
3. Choose to turn password off. Accept the warning. You are not asked for a password/pin.
4. Power phone off/back on
5. Phone keypad again, hold 1 to get voicemail menu
6. Choose Administrative options
7. Choose Password
8. You are prompted to enter a new password/pin. You are not prompted for any previous pin.
9. Make sure you have password turned back on after (see 3 above).
10. Exit the menus.

Within seconds, my voicemail was working without prompting for password/ping and all my visual voicemails returned fully functioning. All is good now!!
