Macbook Pro waking up when put to sleep

I've been having this problem for almost a year. Whether I just close the MBP or actually go to "Apple" then "sleep" my MBP will come awake. If it is closed, the Apple will light up and the disk drive will make a noise like it is ejecting. If it is open and I put it to sleep, it just simply wakes up.

I've tried almost everything to resolve this issue:

- Bluetooth is turned off
- I tried the command line prompt that makes it only wake up if a key is pressed (this worked for a while, but only if I left the lid open, which I didnt mind. About a week ago it stopped working all together)
- Reset the PRAM
- And today I went to Apple and bought Snow Leopard (since I was only using Leopard), formatted my HD and upgraded my OS

and its still doing it!! I know I should just bring it in to an Apple store, but I thought the last one would fix the problem...

So if anyone has any other solutions please let me know!

This was happening to me and I tried pretty much everything in this thread. The thing that seems to have fixed it for me was the following:

1. Open terminal
2. Enter: cd /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
3. Enter: sudo vim com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
4. Enter your password
5. Find:
<key>TTYSPreventSleep</key>
<integer>1</integer>

6. Change the 1 to a 0. This will be in each power management profile.

There are other options such as 'Wake on Clamshell Open' etc, that you can disable if the previous doesn't help.

7. Restart.

Worked for me. There are other ways to edit the plist file, this is just the way I suggest.

...after changing the parameters of the file powermanagement.plist, I restarted and pressing quickly cmd / alt / eject the MB has gone to sleep but wake up at the second attempt. So there will be some process in the preferences to turn off the stop command! It should be a preference that is activated at startup, the test was performed after initializing and only with Apple software! What can I do?

I initialized with option "write zeros to disk" ... everything ok with 10.6, the MB went to sleep from the keyboard every time, But I just upgraded to 10.6.7 the problem has occurred again at the second attempt... I did the test only with Apple software! It 's a bug in the 10.6.6 and 10.6.7! The problem for me is in iCal Helper!

Hi John,

I just noticed the same problem on my macbook pro (from Sept 2009). I'm pretty sure it's a software bug because everything seemed to work fine on a clean install of snow leopard on a wiped drive until I did the updates, but it seems weird that not many people have noticed it (searching on google doesn't turn up many results). Maybe it's not that noticeable unless you sleep your computer from the keyboard shortcut a lot since the problem is fixed for a while after restarting the computer.

I also noticed that using the keyboard shortcut again immediately after the computer wakes up from sleep after the first time will put my computer to sleep (and it will stay asleep). However, the screen stays on much longer than going to sleep from any other method. Using the other methods, the screen turns off almost immediately but the light takes a few seconds before it starts pulsing. Using the keyboard shortcut twice, the screen stays on for a few seconds after the command is given but the light starts pulsing almost immediately after the screen turns off. Does your computer do the same thing?

I haven't found the solution either. I also have a few friends who got macbook pros around the same time I did and I'll see if they have the same problem.

First of all, thanks for the answer! So, my MB Pro (October 2009) reacts in the same way! Up to version 10.6.4 the keyboard shortcut (cmd / alt / eject) worked great! Have not resolved with 10.6.8! A few days ago, I called the technician asked me to return the computer to perform new tests,

I'll will report shortly and I'll keep you updated! But I doubt that the technician can find a solution. It could be a problem hard drive, in fact, I remember that the technician had installed a new HD (with 10.6.7) and the problem occurred only rarely, and then try again repeatedly and insistently. However, it seems, for Apple isn't a defect, but rather is for us! I want a Mac running at 100%, we can not always wait 10.7! Besides, I'm not going to buy Lion now because I have some programs that are incompatible! I invite you to indicate the problem here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbookpro.html and hope to solve. Let me know if you have news! ...Sorry for my English!

I'm not sure that it's a hard drive problem. I have a solid state hard drive in my computer and I assume you have a regular one. I thought it might be a problem with the internal keyboard and touchpad USB connection, but it also doesn't seem likely since the second try using the keyboard shortcut consistently works and other keyboard-based ways to sleep the computer works as well as all the other keyboard shortcuts. If it is a hardware issue, I would guess something in the logic board needs to be fixed. I'm pretty sure it's a software issue (since everything works on a clean install before updates) so I'm not too concerned anymore. However, I'll be keeping very good back ups just in case. It might even be some weird interaction between preference settings and the programs on the computer. I didn't get apple care so I'd have to pay for any support from Apple, which I don't want to do unless I think it's a hardware issue. Although if I have to replace the logic board (which seems to cost around $1000), I'll probably just get a new computer. I already sent Apple an email using the feedback link.

I also can't find iCal helper on my computer which is weird since it seems like it would be bundled with iCal, which I have. I have iLife helper though. Haven't tried to mess with it yet and not sure I want to.
