Macbook Pro waking up when put to sleep

I've been having this problem for almost a year. Whether I just close the MBP or actually go to "Apple" then "sleep" my MBP will come awake. If it is closed, the Apple will light up and the disk drive will make a noise like it is ejecting. If it is open and I put it to sleep, it just simply wakes up.

I've tried almost everything to resolve this issue:

- Bluetooth is turned off
- I tried the command line prompt that makes it only wake up if a key is pressed (this worked for a while, but only if I left the lid open, which I didnt mind. About a week ago it stopped working all together)
- Reset the PRAM
- And today I went to Apple and bought Snow Leopard (since I was only using Leopard), formatted my HD and upgraded my OS

and its still doing it!! I know I should just bring it in to an Apple store, but I thought the last one would fix the problem...

So if anyone has any other solutions please let me know!

Anthony: You don't say whether any peripheral devices are connected to the computer when this happens. If any are, disconnect them before putting the machine to sleep. Does the problem persist without them connected? If not, reconnect them one at a time and test with each one connected by itelf until you find out which of them is/are preventing sleep. Many USB devices do this, but others can as well.

I'm having the same issue here.

I've noticed that this issue only occurs when the charger is connected. And when this does happen, the computer becomes quite hot overnight since it's been on and off every 30~40 seconds.

This is very irritating and I did a clean install hoping that the issue would go away by itself, which did no good, of course.

Any solutions?

Drat-- I thought that the last update fixed it. But it started, again.

When I close the lid or choose "Sleep" from the menu, my i7 MBP begins to sleep properly, but then it immediately wakes up again.

That is, the display darkens as with normal sleep, the front sleep-light comes on, then dims down, but just as the sleep-light goes fully dim the keyboard lights up, the display comes on, and the computer is fully awake. It will do this over and over.

Re-start fixes it. Then it may be days before the problem re-occurs, but once it does, re-start is the only fix. Switching users doesn't fix it. Even after logging out all users and selecting sleep from the log-in screen, the computer wakes back up in the same way.

Bluetooth is off. No external drives connected. No USB devices. Nothing plugged in except power.

Smartsleep is set to sleep only. Energy saver is set to not wake. This happened in 10.6.3 and in 10.6.4

Any ideas what's going on?

I took my MBP to the geniuses, and they think they've solved the problem. Apparently the waking issue is caused by a faulty magnetic sensor making the computer think that I'm opening the lid (even though I didn't necessarily close it.) A strong magnet held next to the sensor (middle left side) stops the waking up. So I must be without my computer for a week while they fix the sensor.

This is first time I've had such an ongoing problem with a Mac, and it is really irritating.

When I took the computer home, I found that the magnet really just kept the screen from coming on-- it didn't prevent the waking. Nonetheless, I took the laptop back to Apple and they sent it off, had most of its guts replaced, and they wiped the hard drive. I restored from my Time Machine, and nothing has changed.

I've cloned my hard drive, and I guess I'll start trying things one at a time. This will not happen until I have some time, though.

I think there is no solution as I had same problem for long time now (*) finally the screen went dead.
I was about to pay for the fix, but the technician called and said that though my warranty is expired it's going to be a free fix as Apple knows about this issue of some faulty video chip. I was happy but they don't know how to even answer for that 'Sleep Walking' computer problem, and they are pros.

Tried everything, now I just turn off wifi no usb mouse and close the lead... just believing it's sleeping.. i hate shut down as the restart with these ones is far slower than new iMacs (4 times slower)

could be Mobile-Me and all this 'push' technology with the iphones + synch Macs Address book iCal etc ...???

Since they've replaced most of the computer, and the problem persists, it can't be hardware related. The wake-up problem has been happening more frequently, often within an hour of re-booting.

I thought I would take the time to start deleting possibly offending plug-ins and applications and such to see if anything made a difference. So I made a clone of my hard drive to an external Iomega drive, and today I've booted from the clone. I've spent the day messing around with video and things that might be a bit taxing, sleeping periodically, and I haven't had a self-wake-up yet! I don't know if it has really stopped, but this may be the longest period in months without the self-wake-up problem.

I'll keep using the external hard drive for a while, I guess, to see what happens-- pretty inconvenient for a laptop. If it stays stable, I suppose that I'll move back to the internal hard drive to see what happens. If the problem recurs, I guess I'll try back-cloning from the external to the internal.

Weird.

It turns out that they did not replace the logic board, etc., that the Genius requested-- they simply wiped the hard drive and returned it. This is why it continued to not work!

Last week we sent it back. They really replaced the logic board and top case, this time, and it seems to have worked. I've had the computer back since Thursday (it's now Monday) and the sudden waking has not recurred. The general idea was that the keyboard was sending a false signal causing the wake up.

Everything seems to work fine.

It's back.

Again, no hardware connected, bluetooth off, no weird stuff, but when put to sleep (by any method) the display darkens as with normal sleep, the front sleep light comes on, then dims down, but just as it goes fully dim the keyboard lights up, the display comes on, and the computer is fully awake. It will do this over and over. A re-start fixes it for awhile.

I've lately installed latest updates and the trial version of Aperture, and this started up again soon after I began playing with Aperture. Probably not connected, but just sayin'.

Again, log says: kernel[0]: Wake reason = EHC1

same as before.

Back to the Apple store, I guess.

Really, no one else is seeing this??
