Has anyone heard any rumours when OS4.1 might be released?

Why would you want to hear about rumours? Anyone can make up a rumour.

Surely a confirmed by Apple release date would be more useful?

The "rumour" is a software update this week.

According to the TOS for this forum, it's not appropriate to discuss rumors or to speculate. I know, no one reads the TOS, but just saying.

If you've been around apple as long as many of us have, you'd know that Apple announces things right when Apple announces it. Short of some engineer losing his iPhone 4, speculation about what Apple does is about as accurate as my predicting when an earthquake will hit California. You know it's coming, you just don't know when.

As for your issue, it could be a software bug, it could be a hardware problem. Do a full reset, and if that doesn't rectify the issue, go to an Apple Store and get it replaced.

Note:
* It would be 4.0.1
* Apple impartially confirmed one on their announcement letter in a "Few Weeks" from July 2 when it came out.

So it could be August or September. (Not declaring a truth to it.)
