Cracked screen of my new iPhone 4

Dropped Iphone 4 -- shattered front screen...phone is only a week old 😟
Any ideas on what kind of sympathy I may get from Apple?

iPhone 4, iOS 4

$199+ tax... 10 minutes at the genius bar...

I haven't dropped my phone yet but have noticed a few scratches on the back glass. I can see that the material is very brittle. Ignoring the hoopla about it being 20x harder than plastic, I have no doubt that rubberized plastic is far more forgiving. I am also noticing shiny impact marks on the steel antennas. More so then ever before you need a case.

I have heard from earlier reports that Apple will replace the phone at their stores provided that they haven't exceeded their allotment for damaged devices. You see, whenever Apple releases new products they always take back some broken devices back to their labs for further study. Each store usually allows for a few units to be sent back to headquarters. If you drop by your store you may get a genius to replace it. Just ask really nicely!

Good luck!

After looking at the disassembly at iFixIt, it may be more like 20 minutes with this iPhone 🙂

Absolutely. Can't even lay it face down on a table without the screen making contact. Mine was in a case on June 24 and has not left it!

None. User damage is not covered by the warranty.

Call your credit card company and see if they cover accidental damage.

this is your best bet if you dont wanna shell out $199.00 + Tax.
most credit cards will cover your damages even though apple warranty doesnt.
give them a call before spending another fortune.

It's called "Purchase Protection Program" which covers accidental damage or theft for 90 days, it is included on both our AMEX and VISA accounts. When you call your credit card company they will send you a form that you will have to fill out with the details etc. The last time I used it was for a camera lens that I had dropped, I had to submit the estimate for the repair. There is a $$$ limit on the amount of each occurrence as well as annual limits overall but otherwise I never had any other issues with using the benefit.

if worse comes to worse you may want to try this. 1/4 the price of Apple replacement.

but after looking at the ifixit site for replacing the front, it seems way more complicated than replacing the back. I think I would take any front glass repairs to Apple.

the back, I would not hesitate to do myself.
