AOL Mail - PROBLEMS with sent mail

My mail is with AOL. Quite often these days I have trouble using Apple Mail. Wondering if it's AOL's problem or something wrong with my computer, or if it's my cable internet provider (Time Warner Cable - which tests at 20/1.75 Mb/sec)

Sent messages occasionally take FOREVER to send (regular text - no attachments). The transfer speed goes from very low to zero. The second problem is that occasionally sent messages don't show up in my sent folder. Most of the time it's these messages that take forever that don't show up. They don't show up in my sent folder at aol.com either. As if they never existed. Yet I do know that they are actually being sent and delivered.

Major frustration.

iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo w/ 4 GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.6.4), iPhone 3Gs

Do the following test, please: prepare two messages at the same time, and then click to send only one of them. As soon as you hear the swoosh that the first message has been sent, click to send the second -- does the second message go out almost immediately? Before doing this, click on Window in the menubar and select Activity. Watch this Activity monitor while doing the above test.

Test email 1 - blue progress meter (Mail Activity window) fills up quickly - sits there at 100% full for far too long. Very low transfer rate at best - mostly zero transfer rate. Eventually I hear the swoosh. Nothing in the Sent box.

Test email 2 - same as above.

Open the Sent mailbox in the Sidebar, click on Mailbox in the menubar, and place the cursor on Use This Mailbox For -- are the choice Black or Gray?

Actually, there are two sent boxes. The main Apple Mail sent box (local) which has a paper plane icon (this is the one I was referring to in the previous post), then below I have a group of America Online boxes, which are the duplicate boxes stored on America Online's server. The America Online's sent box's 'Use This Mailbox For' options are all black.

Which is strange because when this problem occurs, there are no copies of the messages sent in this box either.

(WHY DOES THIS SITE NOT ALLOW ME TO USE THE WORLD "A _O_L"!? I HAVE TO SPELL OUT America Online - IT WORKED BEFORE ON MY ORIGINAL POST) ??

With the other Sent folder you found, apply Use This Mailbox For and choose Sent. Be sure to first transfer any messages in the one under paper airplane icon to another mailbox it they are not duplicated anywhere else.

When you do this, all should be well. I think AOL sent out instructions at one point to do just this step.

Either had I until today. I got a restricted content message when I attempted to post. I had originally used "aol.com" in my message. I assumed this was the problem, so I removed the ".com". Still got the restricted content message. I tried changing "AOL" to "America Online" and it worked.

Strange. Seems to be allowing me to post it now. Don't worry about it.

Please elaborate on this...I'm having a send problem as well. All my options under Mailbox/Use This Mailbox For are gray.
