Importing pictures from a Nikon Coolpix camera

I am having trouble downloading pictures into iphoto from a Nikon CoolpixS220 with a 2 GB SanDisk SD memory card. I attach the usb cable and turn the camera on...iphoto opens but never goes to the import mode. I have not had any trouble downloading from Canon or Sony cameras. I am using iphoto '09, version 8.1.2.

No, I cannot use the import command. The Nikon camera does not show up under the devices. I took the sd card out of the Nikon and placed it in a Canon camera that I have. Iphoto recognized the camera and I was able to download the photos. I am not sure why the Nikon camera is not recognized. I also have a Sony camera that I do not have any problems downloading pics from. For some reason the only problems I have are with the Nikon.

Can you use the FIle -> Import command?

Well then check the manual on the Nikon. There's some setting there that's not correct.

I too have a Coolpix and experienced this issue around about the time SL came out. The answer I was given was that I would just have to use a reader for the CF card which I have done since.
