Can't Burn Verbatim Discs

I have completed my Imovie and "share" with idvd. Sometimes it burns a disc but often times it spits it back out. Then once it does burn a disc, it will not allow another to be burnt without spitting it out. Sometimes I start all over by opening my Imovie project, sharing it with IDVD, and burning- sometimes it works but usually it spits it out.
I am using Verbatim DVD-R 4.7GB 16x 120min Discs... They are brand new.
Using a MacBook Pro (not the unibody) with Leopard
Any thoughts?

A good practice will also help isolate the problem. In iDVD, use the Save As Disc Image command to create a virtual DVD on your desktop. This can be opened and played by Apple's DVD Player. If it plays correctly, then use Roxio Toast or Apple's Disk Utility to Copy the image file to an actual DVD. It is suggested to reduce the burn speed as well (to reduce burning errors). Breaking the burn process into two steps will help isolate the problem.

okay, got the disk image, went to disk utilities, hit burn, chose the img that was just created, put in a Verbatim blank DVD and sure enough it did it again- it spit the disc back out... it won't burn it for some reason... i have a few HP discs and i put one of those in and it worked just fine. problem is i just bought 50 verbatim discs and have opened 25 of them now getting ready for an all night burning session... highly doubt i can take them back now...
why won't verbatim burn on my MBP? what is going on?

Hi

QuickTime version ? 7.6.6 seems to be problematic - 7.6.4 may be better ?

Burn Session ! - The Mac DVD-burner are not made for mass-production. Easily over heat !

Just burn 3 DVDs at a time then let it cool off for >20 min before starting next batch !

My list on this

*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*

• Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try

iDVD pref file resides.

Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences

and is named. com.apple.iDVD.plist

While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iDVD.

• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb

• Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)

• Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
• Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)

• iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try

• *Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player*

iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.

If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !

iDVD updated ?

Apple Codec updated ?

Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets

No of Colors - must be set to millions

Interesting. Verbatim is a highly rated manufacturer and DVD-R is the most compatible format. Did you try turning down the burn speed? It might not feel right for an all night burn session, but it can reduce burn errors.

Also note, it's a good idea to let your burner cool off a couple minutes between burns. The burners can overheat.

Most burners are optimized for higher speeds. Rule of thumb is to burn at 1/2 the max speed of the media's max.

I do find that 4x is best on my system with Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD+R media. Too slow a speed can introduce jitter and uneven poer levels since the laser will be on longer then needed. Each pulse of the laser will be longer at slower speeds.

I use 4X with iDVD 09 and iMovie 06.
