Can't replace APN after updating to OS4. It still remembers "Disable3G...."

Can't chage APN configuration after updating to OS4. Already tried iConfiguration program but it does not work. The screen appear "Profile failed to Install - Only one APN configuration can be installed at a time."

I guess it was from the profile that I installed from iphonenodata.com. I did not remove the profile before I updated to OS4. I can't see the APN field when I use my main number which is the Apple official carrier in Thailand (DTAC). I made a try by using AIS simcard as I can see APN input. I could change the APN and use GPRS. But once I replaced the sim card back to DTAC, the "disable" profile comes back again.

Please suggest. Or do I need to reset as new phone? But .. then how can I get all contents back? I have so many data i.e. personal finance, health, etc.

Many thanks,

Dell XPS 1330, Windows 7, iPhone 3GS DTAC Thailand

I got the same problem but solved.
1. Back up your iOS4
2. Restore iPhone via iTunes as if setting up a new phone and disconnect the iphone.
3. Install the unlockit APN changer (go to http://www.unlockit.co.nz from your iPhone) via WIFI connection.
4. Restore again using the backup in Step-1 via iTunes
5. Enjoy! though your data (e.g. app's setting, camera roll) may lost during the restoration.

Thanks Dae.

Tulaya, the Apple consultant said I would lose all the SMS and anything that cannot be synced. So I think Dae is right - contacts, photos, music, apps can all be synced back on to the phone after restore. You have to be careful with notes though, they have to be synced to your computer before your restore so that you get them back. I still haven't tried as I'm hoping to find another solution first. Good luck, please let us know how you get on!

Now I solved the solution!!!! 😀

Refer to this post http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2470873&stqc=true

To briefly saying, I deleted the file 8218978e4ab0a48035bb92653145a6be872ea858 in the backup directory. Then I restored from the backup (without backing up again during the restoration, if iTunes asks). As per "Loveturtle" in the mentioned post said, the file 821xxx contained the corrupted APN. If you want to try it out, read the post for clearer explanation.

However, I didn't success at the first attempt. I did it twice on my laptop and once on my office PC, and succeed on the latter. Not sure what happened for the first two attempts. The results: everything's back (contact, sms, app data, photos), but music and video gone but I can sync from my iTunes later. Only annoying just the messy app icons arrangement. MMS not working if Cellular Data is off - but that's what it is supposed to be as an original setting device.

Good luck!
