Virus protection needed with Virtual PC WinXP?

I have OS X with Virtual PC 7 and Windows XP Pro installed on G5. Windows warns that its not protected from Virus. I have Norton Anti Virus 9 installed on the Mac.

Do I need to install a Windows virus protection program too? If so what is best?

G5 and Powerbook G3 Series, Mac OS X (10.3.9), Virtual PC 7, Windows XP Pro

If you're going to be surfing the web or receiving emails through VPC then yes, antivirus software would be a good idea. It's still Windows, therefore it's still vulnerable...even in emulation.

This will not work or be able to scan Windows XP running on Virtual PC

Yes, remember that any AV programme will slow Windows down.

What is the best, when I use AV I use AVG.

VPC is slow with an antivirus it will be even slower.

I don't have an antivirus on my VPC and i'm wondering if it's risky for my mac..

1- Indeed, i'm wondering if a virus infects the "windoz" installed one vpc can causes damage to hardware like it does sometimes on "windoze".

2- iFelix, what do you think about having Norton for Mac installed please...

Theoretically it could, but there is no actual reported case it has.

A VPC is a file that runs under the VPC application, it would be *very difficult* for a Windows virus to damage the hardware. Very few viruses can physically damage hardware therefore they are unlikely to damage the Mac HDD which is the only hardware it could in theory attack as all the other Windows VPC hardware is emulated.

Note that a virus can attack a VPC in the same way that a virus can attack a real PC.

It won't protect your VPC.

Personally I think virus protection is essential if you need it.

Personally I don't run virus protection on any of my Macs, but then I don't forward files or open attachments or go to dodgy websites.

On any PC that comes with Norton, I usually uninstall it as soon as possible before it drives me nutty.

I avoid using IE and Outlook Express on the PC and again don't forward files or open attachments or go to dodgy websites.
