iPhone does not sync to iCal

I am running version 4.0. Since the upgrade my iPhone does not sync events back to iCal on my Macbook Pro. It does sync the other way--iCal to iPhone, but I need it to do both. I have looked in all the easy places for an answer. I must be missing something. What can I do.

I just back a new MacBook Pro and tried to sync my new iPhone 4 to it. Contacts and notes sync correctly, but nothing from my iPhone's calendar comes over to iCal. I'm quite surprised (and frustrated) that Apple products would have these problems! Apple had better fix this and fast. I'm on the fence about keeping my iPhone and my MacBook. It's not going to take much more for me to return them both!

I have a macbook and I can't sync events from my iphone to ical since I updated my iphone to ios 4 -- the same issue you all seem to be having. I have seen other forums where they have been able to work through the issues using mobile me -- but I don't subscribe to mobile me, I just want to do a simple sync. Does anyone from apple ever read these forums? I tried to use their on-line help but is was useless, it only resolves certain problems and if you don't have that problem then you are out of luck.

I'm having the same problem. 'Merge Info' does not seem to work with iOS4. It worked fine before I upgraded. Now I'm losing appointments that I entered on my iPod Touch! I don't want to use MobileMe to sync my calendars or contacts -- I just want to be able to Merge the information between my mobile device and my computer.

I spoke with technical support at Apple last night and they walked me through a solution to my iphone to ical sync issue -- the only problem is that I had to enter all the events I wanted to keep since my last successful sync (which was before I updated to ios 4) into ical manually. If you are ready to do this then the steps below may work for you:

1. You are going to be pushing your calendar from ical onto your iphone so you will lose any events that are currently on your iphone but not on ical -- you will need to update ical manually to ensure you don't lose anything important.

2. Scroll down in the info tab in itunes to the Advanced options at the bottom -- where it says replace the information on my iphone and select calendar.

3. Sync, check that your iphone calendar matches your ical calendar

4. Add a new test event to the iphone (the selection you made in advanced should have automatically deselected after you sync'd but check just to make sure)

5. Sync again -- check if your test event was transferred -- i hope you have success!

Similar to the problem described above, all my iCal entries entered on the iPhone (IOS4) were deleted and therefore not sync'd to iCal on the Mac after syncing for the first time after the iPhone upgrade. The odd part is that when I went back to iTunes after the sync to look at the settings, I noticed the Calendar box was checked in the advanced section. I've never used the advanced section so I know I didn't check it and even if I did, I understand it deselects after the sync. So I manually deselected it, resync'd, made test entries back and forth between iCal on the phone and the Mac and now it seems to be working fine. As a suggestion to users, after updating to IOS4, double check that none of those advanced boxes are checked (unless you want them to be).

It makes no difference if you have or don't have MobileMe. The iOS4 on my iPhone 3GS will not sync with my macbook or MobileMe. It's a terrible pain because my true calendar that I work with all day long is on my iPhone. Interestingly, my macbook and iPad still communicate with MobileMe and vice versa. It appears that my iPhone is completely disconnected from everything regarding the calendar. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED!!!

Since the recent OS X update and subsequent ios 4 update, my iphone calendar is overwritten by a blank iCal calendar from my Macbook when syncing through iTunes. Though it worked fine for years, I now cannot get my iphone calendar to merge with iCal on my macbook. So, I just backup the iphone calendar data without syncing it - though i can sync contacts, mail etc with the macbook just fine through iTunes. For three weeks, I have been spending hours with the Genius in store and on the phone with experts advised by engineers and still no fix. My calendar is essential for my work. Any ideas?

Janice0927 - when you say "Scroll down in the info tab in itunes to the Advanced options at the bottom -- where it says replace the information on my iphone and select calendar."

This may be a stupid question, but I am not seeing an "info tab" in itunes, either on my MacBook or on my iPhone. Nor do I see a way to do this in Settings on either my MacBook or iPhone (iPhone 3G, updated to IOS4). While iTunes on my Mac has an Advanced menu, none of the options seem related to syncing.
