iTunes freezes when trying to sync iPod Classic

This is probably an old enquiry but in the last 2 days my iPod has randomly started causing itunes to freez when i try to sync it.

I have completed all the relevant R's to try and fix the problem (Retry, Restore, Reinstall etc.) but have had no success. I have performed a complete format of the iPod twice and restored it each time but still it causes iTunes to freeze.

The problem is exclusive to my iPod classic as my iPhone continues to sync successfully. Can anybody offer any advice???

I am having the same problem with my iPod Classic 80g not syncing with iTunes 9.2. I tunes freezes up and after 5 or 10 minutes I get this message: Attempting to copy the disK "MICHAEL DAV" failed. An Unknown error accurred (-69). This happened everytime I tried to sync, even after I "Restored" my iPod. iTunes would not remove photos or synce Podcasts, before all of this started. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit OS.

This happened to me about a year and a half ago when iTunes updated. My iPod was under warrenty and Apple replaced it. Now, the replacement iPod is not under warrenty and is useless since iTunes 9.2. I cannot sync with iTunes 9.21, which was supposed to fix this problem. I tried everything others have tried and still cannot sync. If this is not fixed, I'll toos my iPod and get a Zune. When my AT&T contract runs out, I'll toss my iPhone and get a Windows version of the iPhone.

I logged onto itunes on Thursday and received the prompt for the new version. I downloaded it while thinking "what have I got to lose", "What else can go wrong" and " maybe they foxed it. After the download I attached my Ipod and presto it started to synch. 45 mins later and all was synchronised. I have my Ipod back and don't have to listen to the crappy radio.

Hey Brendan,

I think i got the problem fixed... for now at least. I managed to put my ipod (80G Classic) into disk mode and allowed it to sync that way. Once complete (it took quite a while) i disconnected it and reset it. All my music, photos, movies etc were there just fine. I've only synced the ipod one other time since doing this and it worked fine the normal way i.e. without putting it into disk mode. I'm almost afraid to try and sync it again however, in case the problem happens again!

Hope this works for you.

I'm having the exact same problem. (Windows 64 bit) First I accidentally erased my entire Ipod and now it will only sync about 80% of the songs that I have replaced. I'm getting either an error 53 or 69. How do you run your Ipod in disc mode? Does Apple ever offer help on these discussion boards?
Thanks in advance for any help.

How exactly did you get this problem fixed? My ipod classic (80 gb) has been doing the exact same stuff (saying i have no music but it says that space is taken up, freezing itunes whenever i hook it up, etc). I put it into disc mode and plugged it into my computer and no luck, itunes is still frozen, so I can't even reset my ipod. Did you do something differently that fixed it?

Same problem for me. When I connect my Ipod, it freezes the whole Itunes program. I can't restore it, or do anything with Itunes while my Ipod is connected. To make matters worse, when I COULD do something, and my error was "ipod cannot be synced, required folder cannot be found", I synced some videos and they erased everything else from the ipod. Now, with only 5 videos and no music, and no clear way to do anything to add songs, my error is ipod cannot be synced, required file cannot be found".

Annnd as if it weren't enough, Apple is seeking around $170 if I wish to send in the ipod for repairs. Is this another horrible example of a company profitting off of known errors in its programs and products while neglecting to do anything about it? Cause it certainly feels like it to me, having scoured the forums on similar issues.
