Windows installer service could not be accessed.

I am trying to update my iTunes to 9.2 because I want the new OS 4. I am running Vista with SP2. I have tried every freaking method to try to resolve this issue. Spent the last 3 1/2 weeks googling every site and I cannot find a dang solution. I am losing my patience with Apple, they have so many flaws. I always get the windows installer could not be accessed thing that pops up. I am 99% sure I have tried the method you are about to give me but oh well just give it to me anyways I'll just try it again :'[

I can't even uninstall it it says the same thing and yes I did download the 64 bit version.

If you guys know anything about this issue please post. Thank you very much.

I recommend waiting for Apple to come out with a fix for iTunes 9.2.
If all else fails, get access to a PC that already as iTunes 9.2 installed and working. You can upgrade phone from there but you will pretty much lose any ipod media that was stored on it, so you will eventually need to re-sync the phone on your original PC after iTunes is fixed on it to get the media back. Also, the Apple store might be able to do it there for you; however, your still will be losing you media I think.

My Mac G5 has iTunes 9.2 but I'm afraid that after my iPhones have the OS4 on it it won't be able to cooperate with my iTunes 9.0.3 that has all my stuff on it. What do you think? Will it still work? Because I know you have to upate iTunes to 9.2 for it to work with OS4 and I am not transferring all my stuff to the Mac

P.S. I can install/uninstall any other program except QuickTime and iTunes

Once you upgrade to OS4, you will not be able to sync your phone with iTunes versions older than 9.2. Also, many of us have a problem with 9.2 that prevents it from docking with ANY of the mobile devices because part of the software package will not install. That's the problem I'm having with my 32-bit Windows 7 PC. On the other hand, I successfully installed iTunes 9.2 on my laptop which has Vista-64 on it.

I had the same error in with the i-tunes installation and i did this and it worked.... This works for any i tunes that fails to install itself on 64 Bit

You have to go into your registry.

Start, run, type in “regedit”.

Next go to HKEY LOCALMACHINE.
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Services
MSIServer

To the right you’ll see WOW64. Double click on it, or right click on it and click on modify. Change the setting from 1 to 0.

Next, go to the start menu again and type in the search box: “services.msc”.

Look for and find the Windows Installer service.

Double click on it and tell it to stop. Next, tell it to start.

You should now be able to install your programs.
