Recommended Game Control for Lego Star Wars

Just bought Lego Star Wars for a Christmas gift. Will be running on newest iMac G5. Two questions:

1. Is a gaming control needed or will keyboard and mouse suffice?
2. If so, can anyone recommend one that is simple, works with a small childs hand, but will allow features for more advance users and games.

Thanks in advance.

My 2 cents-

The game runs fine from tbe keyboard, although hands get a little cramped when playing 2 players simultaneously.

The game does not use the mouse at all, from what I can tell, nor can you configure the game to use it.

I plugged in my 4 year old cheap Gravis gamepad pro (you can still find this around for about $5-7 I think) into the usb port of the keyboard before starting the game, and the game ran smoothly with it.

Be advised that the DEMO version of Lego star wars does not seem to work with all joysticks, but the full retail version works fine.

The game runs great on an iMac G5 iSight 20" with 1 GB memory at 1040x760 resolution with all graphic extras turned on.

Hi Boris-

There are I believe 2 more settings you can choose to activate in the advanced settings for video options- one for reflections, and the other for some shading or something of the sort.

They have the effect of making everything look more shiny and for lack of a better term, more plasticty-lego-like.

Not sure why you are experiencing problems- the default 640x480(low) resolution also works fine with my iMac. Does the game even start up, or does it start up but crashes when you try to do anything?

I get the start up music, but a black screen. Then, after about a minute, the screen lights up with the intro video clip.

I never get the menu screen, where I can select "new game", etc.

If I just try to hit "return" with the black screen, I get the "application unexpectedly quit" message.

I just unpacked the iMac today, and put all the stuff from an old iMac G3 on it via the setup assistant. Everything works pretty well otherwise...amazing screen. I also did all the software updates and repair permissions.

I've sent a message to Aspyr, but obviously, they are closed today.

Thanks,

Boris

Hi I had a similar problem with black screen after starting Lego Star Wars. What I found was that if I put the:
com.aspyr.lego.star.wars.plist
that you find in the home/library/preference folder sometimes gets corrupted.
If you trash it and then start the game, it recreates the plist and it runs normally without the black screen,
Hope this helps and that it is an easy fix for your problem.

I've had exactly the same problem with Lego Star Wars. I removed and replaced my 1mb Crucial RAM (thinking I may have bad RAM), ran diagnostic software (apple care) and fiddled with the program permissions. Finally, I was able to get the game to run on my admin user account (no idea why), but not on my son's managed account, which still behaves exactly as you describe. My son is now playing the game on my account (It looks great at 1.5gb - at 512mb it was pretty fuzzy). As soon as I can pry him off the machine I'll check to see if the game will run from either my wife's or my daughter's accounts.

I'd be interested in what you hear from Aspyr. If you're able to see the video portion of the introduction, I'd say your video card is probably fine.

Boris- I think LA2051 is on to something.

I just tried to run the game from my wife's admin account, and the game crashed right away after a cinematic scene.

The game runs fine from my admin account- the same account from which I installed the game.

Try give that a go- run the game from the admin account with which you used to install the game.

Aha! That worked. Why didn't I think to try that?!

How strange. I may now have to try to install under my son's account so he doesn't have to log in as me.

I'm still surprised by Game Agent not recognizing my graphic card.

Pretty awesome gaming on this screen (almost too big!). My son actually complained of a headache after sitting there for about 45 minutes.

I'm still curious to here what Aspyr has to say.

Thanks for all your help,

Boris

After a little more trial and error, here's a solution that worked for me: Navigate to the Lego Star Wars file folder and highlight it. Click "Get Info" and then "details" under "permissions and owners". Change all permissions to allow read and write access for everyone and then click on "apply to all contents" at he bottom of the windoow. You'll then get a warning that this action cannot be reversed. Click "allow" or "continue". That's it! The game can now be successfully launched from any of the four user accounts on our iMac.

Good luck. I hope this works for you as well!
