Transfering music from 3G to iPhone 4?

All your music and apps should be on your computer you sync with. Thus you just need to sync your new one with your iTunes library.

As for rest of your content, it too should be on your computer (eg: Contacts in your computers Address book, photos still in your place you store photos on your computer, Calendar in your Calendar, etc.

You have been syncing your stuff right?

If all your music is in itunes then you should be able to transfer them to your new iphone 4.

You can still sync your old phone. It still works (just not as a phone). So sync it.

And remember the phone is designed to work with iTunes. Your computer is where your data should be stored and backed up with whatever backup procedures you use for your computer. The phone is not a backup storage device and not meant to get things off otherwise.

Have you ever synced it (eg: first day you got it?). If so then it knows the phone and will merge data (take off what is on phone and put on computer).

Now if it isn't the computer you used when you first synced then yes there is an issue.

To be safe. Go into iTunes. Go to Edit then Preferences. Find the tab that has the option about Automatically syncing the iPhone and toggle it so it will not automatically sync.

Then in iTunes access the iTunes store and look in the top right. Are you logged in with your account? If not, log in.

Once that is done, you can connect phone then in iTunes go to the File Menu and click Transfer Purchased content.

That will take off anything you bought via the iPhone.

And now in the future, remember to sync your phones.

Then those songs are already in iTunes. Just sync and you will have them again.

unfortunately, unless you have the original music
files for your other 800 or so songs, you will be
out of luck.

afaik, itunes will only sync what is currently in the library.

did you backup your music files to anything else perhaps?

To backup your 3G you will need a program to copy the content back to you PC and import to Itunes so you can transfer to your new I4.

i have that problem too, with a bunch of songs
on an ipod mini that i no longer have the files
to, so they're not in my itunes library.

I have done this before with my Ipod and I tested this program to see if it works with the I4 and it does.

i don't think you'll be able to retrieve the
music files separately from that backup you
did in itunes.
