Sustain Pedal Release Should Not Mute Depressed Keys

Greetings,

I have an Alesis Q49 keyboard and an M-Audio SP-2 sustain pedal. When I play the keyboard with Ableton Live, the sustain pedal operates as a normal piano sustain should. However, when I play the keyboard into GarageBand, keys that I'm holding down on the keyboard are muted when I release the pedal. This makes GarageBand just about useless for playing/recording piano parts.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening, or if there is a setting I can change in GB?

The behavior in more detail: Press and hold some keys, and then depress the sustain pedal. Release the keys and the notes sustain as they should. So far so good. Now depress some different keys, and then release the sustain pedal (pretty standard piano technique). Not only will the old notes (that I'm no longer depressing) be muted (as they should) but the new notes that I'm still holding down on the keyboard will be muted as well, which I obviously don't want.

In other words depress and hold some keys, no matter what you do with the sustain pedal, as long as you are holding down the keys, they should not mute.

Thanks,
Cameron
