I am having the same problem too. My wifi worked fine before I went on vacation, but ever since I got home, I can't access my network because my password in "incorrect". I KNOW my password is correct. I triple-checked it.

It's an Asus modem/wireless router combo I'm not sure about the exact model. With WPA2 encryption. MAC filtering is disabled. It was working fine for the past week with the current settings.

And yes I've tried powering off and restarting the router as well. Nothing worked!

Anyway thanks for the reply.

Has anyone managed to make it work again?! 😟

Sadly there are no Apple stores or any official Apple customer service in my country. So I guess I'm left with a defective device. Great.

But there should be a solution for this, cause there's really nothing wrong with whole networking thing, it works when the connection is not encrypted. Oh God I feel totally helpless.

I connected the iPod to iTunes, iTunes didn't backup the iPod and says an error occurred.

I tried restoring from backup, it doesn't work either. I think there's something terribly wrong with my iPod. It's not just a networking issue.

I'm still looking for a solution, I'm going to update the software to 4.3, but as I've read elsewhere on the internet, even restoring/updating it wouldn't solve the "incorrect password" problem.

Apple should really be responsible about this problem because it seems to be a widespread issue among iPod touches.

Well I finally fixed it. I think there will be a lot of people googling "incorrect WiFi password" and probably looking for a solution here. So this is what I did:

My iPod was nearly dead, I tried to "Erase all content and settings" from the settings menu, after I did this, it stuck after it tried to reboot, showing just the Apple logo and nothing else. I connected it to iTunes and put it in the recovery mode, iTunes downloaded and installed the latest software (4.3) and now everything's okay. No more incorrect password problem!

There have been a lot of discussion about this particular issue on the internet, many have suggested that resetting the router and its settings might help solve the problem, but from my experience, there's absolutely nothing wrong with your network. It's the iPod touch that can't connect to the network! Don't bother trying to change network settings or worse resetting your wireless router. Try updating or restoring the iPod software and everything will be fine again.

Good luck!

I have an iPod Touch 3 and a new D-Link router.

I just uploaded and installed the 600 mbg iPod update.

So in theory it should work now... but it doesn't.

I tried clearing out the network settings and reinstalling them. Still won't recognize my correct password.

I've tried uppercase and lowercase... still no connection.

It still says the password is incorrect even though I know it is in fact correct.

I have unplugged the router and rebooted the computer numerous times... no effect.

NOW WHAT?

I think if I went to the Apple store they'd be able to show me to the latest most expensive new iPad, but I doubt if they'd have much more than that to help.

My router says it's running on 802.11 mode 11 bgn.

I have no clue what that means or how to change it.

I greatly admire anyone who can actually wade through all the DNS, html, IPV6, DNS language.

I think this is a realm that is not for the average consumer to understand or participate in.

I just wish I could get this iPod to connect. It used to work... and I need it for my work.

Frustrated! I wish Apple would acknowledge this problem and do something about it.

Somewhere in those 2 hour downloads of new systems they might consider fixing this problem.

Well folks, it's been about a year and this issue remains.

I think it's amusing that looking at the history of hits to this question... most of my questions log in at about 25 views. This issue weighs in around 17,000 hits! So I guess it's nice to know you're not alone in trying to solve this problem.

Just an update. I now have a new router... (D-Link DIR-655) with both WPA and WPA2. I also have upgraded to comcast cable with a new cable modem.

My iPod Touch3 will connect with no problems at the Apple store. It's just at my own home where it tells me the password is wrong.

Interestingly... one day when I was setting up the router... before it had any security settings on it at all, THEN the iPod Touch3 would connect! So there's something to do with the security settings that the iPod doesn't like.

I think this is a failure of the Apple software to make such a difficulty for their customers. Since I see that 17,000 other customers are also having problems I can say that with some degree of authority.

I went to the Apple store twice. And each Genius told me to try a different solution. One said to wipe the firmware and reload (take about 3 hours). The other guy said if it's working at the Apple store, then the firmware is fine. I don't know who to believe...

Oh well... I'll keep on trying.

I finally figured out what the problem was... user error. It's because for 6 years of using it, my first router had no wi-fi, so I had trained myself to believe that the router's password was the password for the device.

In fact the correct password should be applied to the specficially named device instead of the router.

The instructions in the router technical steps are about as clear as mud on this issue... (for non alien humanoids to comprehend). Anyhow, once I named and set a password for the device, now it works.

Funny how in all the talks with the Apple geniuses, this was never sorted out. Oh well, live and learn..
