The iPad doesn't support .wvm. There is nothing you can do on the iPad to play this video. The only thing you can do is watch it on a desktop/laptop computer.

You can download the video with a desktop computer and then convert it a format that the iPad can play. Send the con converted video to the iPad for viewing.

I'm a newbie who purchased a 16g Wi-Fi 3g iPad a week ago and can't seem to put it down.

I too tried to lauch a wvm file. I did a search and found your post where you advise that the iPad does not support wvm files. I noticed that the icon for the wvm file has what looks like a QuickTime icon - do you believe the reason iPad won't read it as the iPad is looking for QuickTime to run it??? If so, do you think Apple will fix the problem in future releases of the iPad???

In the interim, I have launched the file from my laptop.

Regards,

Pierre

WMV as in Windows Media Video.

You need the correct codec to view it.

It's not a problem (because it's not "broke") and I doubt Apple will support WMV on the iPad in the future.
The VLC app should play WMV.

Type in yxplayer2 lite...

I tried VLC today on a DVD VOB (MPEG-2) file and it worked!... No conversion... The only problem is when the video is interlaced. You'll see interlaced artifacts on fast moving objects. But then again, this beats the time it takes to convert a video to H.264.

To use the VLC player the iPad has to hookup to iTunes and you just drop the video file into the file sharing window for VLC.

The next time I sync the iPad I will try a WMV.

Another newbie question, I am afraid. I am trying to watch a windows media video stream in Safari, from a live web cam, on an iPad2. There are four VLC apps in the app store, but none seems to say it does what I am after. Which one are you recommending, please?

Similarly, yxplayer seems to be for the iPhone, and it is not clear from the description whether it will do what I want.

Since it is a live feed, I do not have the option of downloading and playing, but if anyone has another workaround, I am happy to try it.
