3gs not allowing me to synch seperate songs/albums

my 3gs is not allowing me to drag and drop seperate songs or individual albums from itunes unless i synch WHOLE selected music collection !!!! although i can with my ipod touch!!!!!!
This was fine before itunes and iphone updates
Any suggestions aside from chucking phone out of window
