Caller ID Name

My wife & I have two iPhones on one AT&T account. Her iPhone's name is "Pat's iPhone" but when she calls someone their caller id shows my iPhone's name (which btw also has an apostrophe in it). I read in the forum somewhere that having apostrophes in the phone's name can cause problems but hers syncs ok. I thought to change her phone's name to eliminate the apostrophe to see if that would help. A post in the forum say you can do this when connected to iTunes in the left hand column under devices. The only place I find a devices choice is in iTunes preferences, where it shows both our phones name's backups, but clicking or double clicking on that does nothing whether the phone is visible in iTunes or not. I tried clicking on her phone's name in the summary tab but that's not editable either. Her phone's software is version 3.1, my phone is on 4.0 and the iTunes version is 9.2. In addition to any advice about renaming the phone, any thoughts on the reason for the caller id issue would be appreciated.

The name for the caller ID is not the name of your iPhone in iTunes. There is an option on the iPhone to provide the caller ID when calling, which is the number and area code only. The name provided on the recipient's landline or cell phone is the name the recipient has for the number on their phone. No name for the number, and the number will be provided only.

To change the name of your iPhone which has nothing to do with the caller ID, click on your iPhone name under Devices in the iTunes source list to highlight the name area to change it. No different from changing the name of an existing iTunes playlist or the name of a file or folder on your computer's hard drive.

Whoops, time for new glasses. I did find out why the caller id was showing up wrong, and as you said it wasn't the iPhone's name at issue. I got thinking about where the name must be coming from and AT&T seemed a possibility, so I logged into my account on AT&T and found her phone number's "name" had defaulted to the account name. I was able to change it in the account profile. Problem solved. Thanks for the help.
