iPad bluetooth key repeat bug?

I've got a bluetooth keyboard dock combo; and a regular bluetooth keyboard for my ipad. Sometimes when its docked in the combo; but still connected via bluetooth to the other keyboard; I'll get a continuous key repeat when entering data into a password field. It'll just go on and on. I have to disconnect it from bluetooth keyboard; and all is fixed. A bug?

I've seen the repeating key problem with a Palm Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard, without the dock involved at all.

I thought it might be specific to this 3-year old piece of hardware, but unfortunately it turned out to also be a problem with my dad's Apple Bluetooth Keyboard.

So yes, definitely seems like a bug.

Have you also noticed that after disconnecting the Bluetooth keyboard (through Settings) that the Virtual Keyboard does not come up anymore? This has happened to me with both the Apple and the Palm keyboards, and I could not get the virtual keyboard to start showing up again until I turned my iPad off and on again.

We are experiencing All of the problems mentioned in this thread with the iPad and the aluminum BT KB. We have distributed a dozen iPads and tried at least three different Apple BT KB's with several of the iPads. At the moment I am testing one of the Matias folding BT KB's and have not (yet) had any of these issues - fingers crossed. Somewhat hard to believe, that Apples-to-Apples is a problem when 3rd Party-to-Apples isn't, but that's the way it looks at the moment. At present, the evidence is pointing to the Apple KB as the culprit, at least in our shop.

I have somewhat the same problems mentioned. I thought I was the only one but when I read this, I felt some comfort. Just something to contribute and hopefully you guys can shed some light on this.

I just bought my iPad 2 about two weeks ago. Before that I was playing around with my parent's iPad first generation.

For both iPads, I have the same problems while using the same wireless keyboard on both of them.

1. While typing, at random times the wireless keyboard stops responding and the on screen keyboard shows up.

2. While typing, also at random times, the wireless keyboard stops responding and the same alphabet that I last typed in would multiply itself until I either press "command + A" and delete or lock my parent's iPad and iPad 2.

3. While typing, my wireless keyboard stops responding, on screen keyboard shows up, I select my on screen keyboard to hide, continued typing on the wireless keyboard, it stops responding again and my iPad2 restarts in a split second with the black backdrop and apple logo in the middle and goes to lock screen. Then everything is fine.

4. While not typing, on screen keyboard shows up at random times while bluetooth is paired to wireless keyboard and then goes back down, all this while bluetooth icon at the top screen of the iPad2 flashes.

I don't know what is wrong. At first I thought my iPad 2 has a problem but when I remembered the same problems occurred on my parent's iPad first generation, I don't know if it is just my keyboard or the iPad(s) have a problem.

I'm starting to think that its because of the Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard. A bug I suppose?

I too am having this problem. I have tried two wireless bluetooth keyboards - the Apple bluetooth keyboard, and the Logitech tablet keyboard. Unfortunately, the problem persists on both of these. It works ok initially, but I notice that the problem with repeat/sticky keys appear when a lot of text is written. It is as though the bluetooth buffer is overrun.

The software version and IPad details:

IPad 2, 3G, Wi-fi 64G, IOS 5.01.

It is such an annoying and disappointing issue that I do not use my wireless keyboard with the IPad anymore.

How can we raise this up with Apple Engineering?

I've seen some discussion about it being a conflict between WiFi and Bluetooth on similar frequencies.

I'm trying one solution, which is to set your wireless router to use a fixed channel (1 appears to be recommended).

Also, some more google searching shows this may be an issue with other devices (I saw one involving a Xoom and an Android-specific bluetooth keyboard).

Hi all,

I was able to confirm that this does not happen when disabling wifi on the ipad.

On this review, http://www.tuaw.com/2012/05/15/logitechs-ultrathin-keyboard-cover-the-best-ipad- keyboard-case/ the reviewer notes that some users have noticed the key repeat issue when the ipad is sending wifi data.

I am currently upgrading the device to 6.01 and will let you know if this solves it.

I have an ipad 2 with ios 6.0.1 and a brand new bluetooth keyboard for it and I also after using the keyboard for a week, am having ALL the same problems mentioned here. (repeating keys, having my keyboard stop working in the middle of my sentence and then having my ipad keyboard pop up)

Has anyone found a fix yet other than having to return the keyboard?

Thanks,

Martha
