apple cinema 30 and HDCP

HI

I know that Apple Cinema 30 is not HDCP compliant.
But I have read that a third party program called AnyDVD HD ( a Windows program which you would have to run through Bootcamp ) would allow one to use the Apple Cinema display. Does this sound right ?

I have read that even iTunes movies you purchase and download will not play on the Apple Cinema 30. Is that correct or has Apple changed that ?
How about NETFLIX? Would I have problems showing Netflix on an Apple Cinema?
Basically - I've read so much stuff that I'm totally confused as to what you can and cannot show and play on the Cinema 30.

Finally I plan to connect the Apple Cinema 30 to my mac mini ( I have a late 2009 model ) - do I need the $99 mini-display port to dual link DVI to be able to get full resolution on the Cinema 30 or will the standard mini display port to VGA adapter give the full resolution ?

Many thanks for all you good guys out there who know your stuff.
Aloha

I plan to connect the Apple Cinema 30" to my Mac Mini ( I have a late 2009 model ) - Do I need the $99 mini-display port to dual link DVI to be able to get full resolution on the Cinema 30"

Yes.
or will the standard mini display port to VGA adapter give the full resolution?

Even if it gave the right resolution it wouldn't work, since the Apple 30" can't use VGA.

thank you Malcolm for replying to my question.

I just got my cinema display and I will be getting the mini-display port dual link DVI. Currently with the setup I have now with the mini display port to DVI port ( $29 cable ) all I can get on the cinema is 1200 x 800 resolution.
Does that sound right - that is the maximum resolution I can select.

Also coming out of the Cinema is a firewire cable that does not fit my firewire connection on my mac mini ? What is up with that and why do I need a firewire cable going from the cinema to the macmini ?

Thanks again. I appreciate your help
Pete

You should be able to use 1280 x 800.

The 30" display has two FireWire 400 ports. If you want to use them you have to connect the display's FireWire cable to the computer. Since new Macs use FireWire 800, you will need an adapter.

If you don't use the display's FireWire ports you can leave the cable disconnected.

thanks again Malcolm
Yes, I can use 1200x800 but I didn't pay all that money just to settle for 1200x800 on a Cinema 30.

I am hoping the new dual link cable will give me the full resolution.

my mac mini has a Nvidia GeForce 9400 graphics card.
my early 2009 mac pro laptop has a GeForce 8600 GT graphics card.
Does that make any difference in the operation of the Cinema 30 ?

And why again would I need a Apple Cinema to computer Firewire connection if I were to get that adapter you linked me to ? ( thanks for that too )

I also read on the forum today about OS X 10.6.4 system problems with the Cinema 30 - not what I wanted to read today.

many thanks again Malcolm,
Pete ( the dual-link DVI should arrive by Monday )

A 30" with a single-link DVI connection should allow 1280 x 800, not 1200 x 800.

No, al long as you get a dual-lik DVI connection.

You need the connection only if you are going to use the FireWire ports on the back of the display.
