I am trying to modify an iPad to use in commercial aircraft and am having a problem getting the battery FAA approved. I know if I take the battery out and plug it in I will get the very low battery screen. Does anyone know how to take out the battery and have the device still work while plugged in like on a laptop computer? Does anyone have any good ideas to this problem? I know it is quite a undertaking to take the battery out but am willing to try it. Thanks,

I could be wrong, but to the best of my knowledge, an iPad runs always off of it's battery. The AC adapter just charges the battery as the iPad is using it. So I don't believe it will run without the battery installed.
So you want to replace the FAA approved battery in the iPad with a different battery, but that battery isn't FAA approved so now you want to create direct power connection which could be accomplished by using the supplied cable and a power adapter? And this makes since how?
I suppose there's always a chance, but I would have no idea how to make that work, never having attempted to take my iPad apart. You'd have to match the iPad's battery voltage and current, with something other than a Lithium-based battery from what I can tell from the FAA information, and then figure out how to get cables through the case, or run without a case. You're on your own, I'm afraid; I don't think you'll get much guidance on this.

any chance i might be able to run some jumper wires to make it work?
I would suggest you contact Apple about this directly. They are the ones who should be working with the FAA to get the iPad and its battery certified.
