IPhone 4 Bluetooth Issues

IPhone 4 doesn't allow reasonable range and other issues with bluetooth headset. Fyi, tried with Apple Bluetooth headset which worked perfectly with IPhone 3G & IPhone 3G-S. Issue, you can have IPhone 4 in shirt or pant pocket and bluetooth will disconnect. Also, you can have IPhone 4 inside car and close the door while standing right outside the door and bluetooth disconnects. This never happened with previous models including IPhone 3G-S with IOS 4 installed.

Other bluetooth issues: as others reported - muffled sound quality to person your talking to. Time delays and disconnects with bluetooth Uconnect. IPhone 4 won't let you change between your car audio phone feature back to IPhone 4 without freezing.

Hi,

To me its simply unbelievable that Apple has not commented on bluetooth issues on iphone4. This discussion is the most viewed (130.000 times already) and most replied to thread on the whole forum.

I really have hopes up for the iOS 4.3 update. If it doesn't address these BT problems we have, I probably take the phone back to the retailer for a refund.

I WANT MY MONEY BACK APPLE

Why are you still selling the iPhone4 when the bluetooth doesn't work?

I get dropped calls whenever I go inside a building. I have the iPhone4. Other iPhone3 users don't have cell phone signal problems.

THE BLUETOOTH DOESN'T WORK! I went to the Apple store because I purchased the EXPENSIVE apple care plan. They switched it out twice. AND THE BLUETOOTH ON ALL OF THEM DON'T WORK!

It doesn't matter which brand or model of BLUETOOTH EARPIECE that we use. ALL OF THEM WORK FINE WITH OTHER PHONES, BUT NOT IPHONE4.

I WANT MY MONEY BACK APPLE. SOMEONE SHOULD INSTIGATE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT UNLESS APPLE CORRECTS THIS MISTAKE.

Why do you fix the problem on the Verizon iphone? But what about the rest of us that already bought it under ATT? When will we get a version that does NOT have bluetooth nightmares?

I tried the Sony VH110 that JMacGyver has been raving about and it's no better with my iP4 than my Plantronics Voyager Pro. I still sound like a cyborg and no one can understand me at times - especially once I get 10 feet away or so (but sometimes even when the phone is in my pocket). Same exact issues with 3 different iPhone 4's that I've tried while using them with a Jawbone, Plantronics and now a Sony headset. I don't know if it's an environment issue at my house with my other electronics or what, but I didn't have ANY bluetooth issues in 2 years with my iPhone 3G.

I hope 4.3 fixes this, but I'm not holding my breath. Seems like it's a hardware issue since the problem has been present since the 4.0 software.

It's seems this has been going on too long..... My self as well as many friends family and co-workers have been having this same issue and apple has not fixed it. I am going to suggest that everyone who just reads this and is having issues to call apple to complain. It seems there is more of an issue than just software. Recall comes to mind. I love apple products but there is just so much we should put up with. Bluetooth is an essential part of a smartphone.

Add me to the long list of people who have not been able to use either my Motorola or my Planetronics Voyager Pro BT headset since buying my iPhone4 in October. Both headsets worked fine with my old Razr phone, but won't stay connected for longer than a minute or two with my iPhone. Also, during the brief moments they are connected, the iPhone still appears to be continuously attempting to connect ... at least thats what the circular icon seems to indicate. A friend of mine with a Jawbone headset has the exact same problem. This problem has been reported over and over again and yet Apple still has not admitted that it is a problem. I'm legally not allowed to use my phone without hands-free while driving so am forced to use a wired headset. This is unacceptable ! So much for the great Apple QC and Service they like to boast about so much.

if you can't hear because of volume issues, get a custom earpiece. channels the sound directly into your ear canal. I have iPhone 4 & Jawbone Icon, my volume level went from needing full volume to hear down to having to choose between 1 & 2 bars on volume. I got mine at www.custom-ears.com Go check them out online. Temp site, but you can get to Rick by his e-mail sales@custom-ears.com and he'll set you up.

iPhone 4 #4 is on it's way.
Seriously everyone. Make Apple replace the phone. It will get Engineerings attention.
The Apple support person I spoke with tonight was completely unaware of this thread.

Give them a crapload of phones back with bunk Bluetooth and Engineering will take it seriously.

Believe me, Apple doesn't pay anyone to set around and read these threads.

Sadly, I don't think Apple cares. You're definitely not the first one to draw Apple's attention to the problem or to report that the phone rep, engineer, etc was unaware of the problem.

They've done nothing to fix the problem in 8 months. If the upcoming 4.3 software update doesn't fix the problem, it's not getting fixed prior to the iPhone 5.

It's most likely a hardware issue, as initial reports of the Verizon iPhone have been good in respect to Bluetooth performance. I also read that the Bluetooth module/antenna was relocated in the Verizon model as well.

I've been following this thread for awhile and tried all the suggestions with no permanent fix. This weekend I was doing a trade show and needed my phone to last for more than 12 hours.....so I turned the 3G off. That was the first time I'd done that since upgrading to the IP4.

I have had NO bluetooth related issues since Sat 4/12.

I use both the Plantronics Voyager Pro+ and the 500a desktop adapter. Range is improved and no constant re-connects.

I promise to reply again if/when the problem comes back.

Help would be nice. I spent an hour on the phone. More time at the Apple Store to get a new Iphone with the same problem. I experianced this problem with jawbone, plantronics and motorola. Apples says DOH what problem. Sorry Apple this is a work phone not a toy.

Apples has had over a year to figure why and what is causing it but continues to be oblivious. Why purhase anything from them anymore. Apple is no different than any other corporation now. Steel the money and run.

So if anyone knows a headset that actually works with the iphone 4 I would be grateful.

Got my newest replacement (#4) yesterday. committed faux pas, pulled my sim card out and promptly reinstalled it in the old phone and then contacted Apple to raise heck that the new one was bad right out of the gate.
During troubleshooting I noticed the serial number was the same and admitted my mistake to Apple.

But not before getting a senior advisor to admit that there was a problem with BT in the i4 and engineering is working on it.

From 1/20, when I got the sony vh110 bt headset, I've had zero problems. It hasn't hiccuped once and walking out of range - and getting 30', simply disconnects the headset. Walking back in range it reconnects no problem. No muffled complaints, static, etc.

Now I wish I would have gotten the more expensive version with noise canceling, because the biggest complaint I get now is that every sound is noticeable. Funny, considering the complaints I got when using the BlueAnt T1, Voyager Pro or JB Prime 2. I still hope that Apple fixes the problem as I'll then have a perfect headset for the car (the Voyager Pro) and the sony can stay at work.
