Q: Iphone 4 people cant hear me during calls.

Has anyone had any success or resolution to this problem?

I have been having the same problem for about 2-3 weeks with my iphone 4 as well. My phone is about 6 months old and it only just started. After reading everything here, it seems as though nothing is helping, even replacing the phone several times. Updating, resetting, deleting apps....

It is a huge hassle to get to make and appointment and get to an apple store when working and when you have 2 small kids. But if a new phone would fix it I would make the effort. Just doesn't seem as though that is the solution...

This really is a pain. What a shame....I love my iphone!

God, i have the exactly same problem!

I had the same problem with my iPhone 4. They swapped it with a new one which is currently working. Just reporting to increase the critical mass of people complaining, hoping that Apple will take action .

Mine just started doing this on Wednesday. Took it to the apple store and they thought I may have had too many apps open. Tried that, restarted and still having problems. I just upgraded to 4.3 this past weekend... I'm wondering if that caused the problem. Very frustrating. A Droid might be calling me name.

Just restored and cleaned out a lot of apps. Worked for a day, now back to one-sided phone conversations again

Add my name to the list. I upgraded to 4.3 (ATT GSM) last Saturday and suddenly on Wednesday nobody could hear me on either my Jawbone Icon or ERA. I could clearly hear them but all they heard was a deafening silence.

Occasionally I could get it to work by calling with the Bluetooth headset turned off and after the other party answered I would turn the headset on and then it would work.

I have done several hard resets on the iPhone and reloaded the Jawbone software (twice) to no avail. As much as I love my iPhone, an Android phone is looking more appealing unless Apple can release reliable hardware and software.

Exact same issue. Bought phone on launch date...worked perfectly.
Suddenly other people couldn't hear me. All other microphone usages work fine.

I called up support...they suggest backing up phone, and restoring as new. Did that...worked fine for a day or so...and then stopped working again.

Guess I am going to have to get a replacement (but who's to say it won't happen again 8 months down the road?)

I have an iPhone on 4.2.1, staying there for reasons to be left unstated. This issue started recently. I was planning on (reluctantly to say the least) updating to 4.3.1, but it seems as if that does not fix anything. Ugh, I do NOT want to drive 2 hours to my "local" Apple store, and I do NOT want a phone running 4.3.1. No known fix?

Apple... you're making me really want a Droid. My friend's Droid X is amazing. Swype is incredible.

I encountered a similar problem after purchasing a 3rd party leather'et case. The top part actually disabled the proximity sensor. At first, I wasn't even aware of this sensor so I figured.... oh great, just like my piece of crap HTC Android (where holding the phone to ear did everything from mute, dial digits, hang up) LOL Very pleased to have left the crazy anarchy of the Android world!

But this forum kindly enlightened me and cutting out a piece of the fake leather enabled the proximity sensor again. Works perfectly now.

BTW, I certainly hope your issue is as non-serious as that.

Seems today's iOS update possibly solved it, at least for now - knock knock on wood

I updated from 4.2.1 to 4.3.1 to test if this problem is solved but answer is no. It's still there. My phone is useless. I'm taking it into service today.

i found temporary solution for this problem. you got this problem when you are in 3G network. if you disable 3G network (Setting->general-> network and disable 3G) network become Edge. Now you will be able to make call without any problem.

but this also a headache for me, when ever you want to access internet, it needs 3G network. so every time have to change it in to 3G.

I disagree with 3G solutions. Same happens to me without 3G network.

Add me to the list. Within days after I upgrading to iOS 4.3, people couldn't hear me on the speaker or regular mic or even with a hard-wire headset!! Often, people could hear me for maybe the first 10-15 seconds. I tried hard resets etc.

I took my phone to the Apple store after spending an hour trying to communicate with clients (I'm self-employed and this is my only phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). I had to use clients' land lines and refer to my address book on my phone for numbers. When I arrived at the Apple store (Emeryville, CA, USA), my phone worked fine! They ran diagnostics and said it was ok and there was no record of dropped calls, which WASN'T the problem, so so what. They told me to replace the SIM card at AT&T because a bad SIM card can cause that problem (huh?), so I walked across the street to AT&T, which replaced my SIM card on the spot for free. It worked for about 7-12 days, until today.

This morning, after putting one client on hold and taking another call, then switching back and forth a couple of times, the problem reoccurred. For an hour or so, no one could hear me on the speaker or regular mic with incoming or outgoing calls. I borrowed my girlfriend's phone and called my clients back.

Apple seems to "win" by proving that my iPhone passes Apple's diagnostic tests. Good for them. The phone aspect of my iPhone is NOT a luxury and is my only phone. Good for Apple for "winning" the argument.

I'm seriously considering switching to a Droid phone. The only problem is I like MobileMe to sync my calendars and address book over the air to my Mac. I think I can work around this by switching to a gmail address and use gmail's calendar and address book, both of which sync over the air with iCal and Apple Address Book. Any ideas?
