What does an iPad backup include?

What does an iPad backup include? Does it backup everything? I'm especially wondering if an iPad backup restores apps and _*app save data*_ (app save data meaning the data recording the progression I've gotten through a game like Angry Birds)? I would really appreciate if someone could tell me what an iPad backup fully backs up. Thanks!

Backups don’t include synced items, such as songs and videos from your iTunes library, or information such as contacts and calendars from your computer. Your app data (game state, etc.) is included in the backup. See pages 138-139 of the iPad User Guide
