Locked out of Voicemail

I upgraded both of our iPhone 3GS phones. Now they don't work properly. When we unlock the phones we get the message "Password Incorrect - Enter voicemail password" and it asks for a password. Issue - we do not have passwords for voicemail and when people leave a voicemail, we are not seeing it nor can we access anything in voicemail. Help! We use these phones for business and miss calls can mean missed revenue.

You have two choices, as voicemail does in fact have a password, 1. Try the last 4 digits of your phone number(default password), or:

To reset your voicemail password from your phone:

1. Call 611 or 800-331-0500.
2. Enter your wireless number starting with the area code.
3. Press 3 to "get help with voicemail."
4. Press 3 to reset your voicemail password.
5. Enter your Billing ZIP code.
6. A text message will be sent to your wireless handset. If your wireless account does not have text messaging, you will need to contact AT&T to have your voicemail password reset. Note: This can take up to 15 minutes.

I am locked out, too. Called ATT, they reset the password to my 7-digit phone number, but warned me that it may not work and then i would have to call apple support. They were right, voicemail was still asking for a password, but now i could call in to get my voicemail.

Called apple this morning, apparently i will have to perform a hard reset of the phone. GRRRRR....

same question as another post...(which I think came after yours)

anyway, when you FIRST set up your voicemail, you were instructed to choose a 4 digit PIN or password. that is the number. I had the same problem when I first upgraded to iOS4 and was confused because it only brought up the number keypad and all my "passwords" are mainly letters. Took me a day or so (doh!) to realize it was that 4-digit PIN.
