Can't remove AutoFill data

Question

Can't remove AutoFill data

There are some user names that are stored in Safari's AutoFill that I want to remove, but I can't. When I highlight them and click "Remove," nothing at all happens. There are others, however, that I am able to remove. Any idea why some are stuck? Even clicking "Remove All" does nothing. I do have MobileMe set to sync my Keychains but I can't see why that would prevent me from removing these things from one computer and having it sync.

Safari 5.0, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

H Scott,

As long as the usernames and passwords are stored in your Keychain, and Safari/Preferences - Autofill / User names and passwords is selected, that data will be reproduced each time you try to remove it.

In particularly so if you sync with MobileMe.

Oh man I didn't even think about trying to edit the Keychains. I didn't even realize that was a possibility. That took care of it! Thanks!

Hey Carolyn,

This helped me as well! Thank you so much for the reminder to edit the keychains. It was starting to drive me crazy that I couldn't remove old user names + passwords from Safari. Once I saw your tip, I was able to take care of it. Thanks.

for the record, this isn't handled as elegantly as apple usually handles things. deletion should work in safari, regardless. most people are unaware of the keychain. if the feature exists in safari's preferences, it should work. period.

otherwise:

- we should be asked if we want the items also removed from the keychain; or

- we should be directed to the keychain.

no matter what, there shouldn't be buttons in safari's preferences that produce no result at all.
