You have a Mac, so essentially iPhoto (or Aperture, depending on what you have) stores and organizes photos. I find this very useful, because although 99.9% of my photos are from a real camera, I do occasionally take photos with my iPhone, possibly more now that I have an iPhone 4.

iTunes, as annoying as it can be at times, let's you organize what photos are moved to the iPad and iPhone. It really is easy, even for a rank beginner.

Apple also keeps a closed system for these products. Again, annoying at times, but mostly it works. You should read stories about the Android system where apps work or don't work depending on seemingly random movements of the planets. There might be something out there if you look hard, but you'll be frustrated with what happens.

I'm very happy how I control photos with Aperture, iPhone, iPad and iTunes in combination. Switch out Aperture and iPhoto, and you'll be fine too.

But, if there's a particular reason why you don't like the combination, drop a note here, and we'll try to help out.

Thank you for your response, but I don't really need to know the value of going through using iTunes, since that wasn't really my question. My question was how do I get something from my iPhone to my iPad without needing to go through iTunes, and I have reasons for wanting to do so on occasion.

I laugh at you for your comments about Android.

Thank you for taking the time to respond 🙂

The only direct transfer from the iPhone4 to iPad is if you have the camera connection kit, you can move photos from the iphone4 camera roll to the ipad.

Connect the iphone4 to the sync cable dock end. Connect the usb end of the sync cable to the CCK usb dongle. Connect the CCK usb dongle's dock end to the ipad.

I have done this several times, so I know it works.

Hope this helps....

If your iPhone and iPad are connected to the same Wi-Fi you can use Photo Transfer App ($2.99).

I use it quite often and it has always worked well for me. It will work device<->device or device<->PC though you are limited to placing the received photos in the 'Saved Photos' location when the destination is a device.

I just purchase the camera connection kit and I'M wondering if I can put the USB cable into this and connect directly into my computer rather than my camera. The reason why is that I take high res jpegs on my digital camera. I don't have a way of changing that for the web on my IPad right now. What Iwant to do is "save for web" in PS and then download the jpegs from the hard drive onto the IPad using the connector.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Sorry for the typos here. I'm still getting used to using this keyboard.

The answer is no. What you describe is like syncing but with a different cable.
