importing audio files into Audacity

I'm sorry if this has been posted before...but I'm trying to start a podcast using Audacity software. I find I cannot import an audio file (song) if I purchased that song from the iTunes store. Is this correct? Or is there some way to adjust my settings, or do something, so that I can import these songs? Audacity says it does not recognize the format.

Thanks

This is correct. Audacity does not not recognize Protected AAC or non-protected AAC files. To use the music you must first burn the protected track to Audio disc and reimport it into iTunes in a format Audacity supports. See the Audacity web site for more information on what file types it supports.

Additionally you should make sure you have the rights to use the music in your podcast. If you are not sure then you probably don't have the rights and will need to find other music. I suggest you look at FreePlay Music, which has a large library of music for use in things like podcasts, and Magnatune.com, which has very liberal licensing for their music.
