I can access Exchange Server mail from my iPhone, but not my Mac

I'm not sure what version of Exchange Server my company runs, but I can access it just fine from my iPhone but not from my MacBook Pro. Am I waiting for a Mac OS update or something?

Thanks.

Mail auto-configures itself (as does iPhone) when you input your Exchange server settings.

However, 90% of the battle is knowing your settings. Contact whomever manages your Exchange server and go down this list of questions. Armed with this information (and assuming your company is running a compatible version of Exchange) you can get Mail to talk to your server: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1277

Mail does work for Exchange 2003 and 2007, what you might not be able to use is the setup assistant to make things easy.

My office has Exchange 2003 and I have everything working just fine with an IMAP connection. This may be disabled by your Exchange admins... you'll have to check. From that point find out the type of encryption (Password, MD5, NTLM), if you have SSL enabled (hopefully yes), and the domain name needed (your MS Domain, usually in all caps).

To get help from your Admins, rephrase your question of "how to setup Apple mail" to "how to setup an IMAP mailbox". Might lead to better answers and a working system.

I have the same problem. I was able to get my iPhone to work with our Exchange 2007 (SP1) email in 20 seconds. I have spent many hours on MS/APPL and other web sites trying to figure out how to get Apple Mail (OSX 10.6.4) to Work. The articles cited above, and others do not explain the myriad of complex options in Mail which are not presented on the iPhone. I've seen no simple explanation of why the iPhone requests a "Domain" whereas Mail does not. Some articles say you could put DomainNameUserName and other articles say not to. On the iPhone you simply select SSL Yes or No but on the Mac, you need to know another set of complex choices.. and in the category of extremely esoteric nomenclature, Internal Server and External Server... these settings are not even mentioned in the Apple "How To" set up Mail for Exchange 2007. I've not been able to find these terms explained anywhere... so the million dollar question is why is it so easy on the iPhone and so hard in Mail... What I would love is to know what combination of these many settings will replicate what I have on the iPhone... Since the nomenclature and choices are different, why is there not any explanation of how to replicate the settings from one device to the other... rant over.. for now.

You need to talk to your Exchange admins. The iPhone uses ActiveSync to connect but Apple Mail needs EWS enabled on the Exchange server. And after much tearing out of hair with Mail refusing to accept a valid Exchange password, the fix (for my Exchange 2010 server anyway) was to enable Basic authentication for EWS in IIS - it's disabled by default.
