After moving to Mojave, I connected my WD external hard drive, and it says "Read Only". Not sure how to make it back to write enabled. The drive was always formatted as MacOS Extended.
MacBook Air (2018 or later)
From Disk Utility, try the Repair Disk button. If that button isn't available, the drive may be locked in hardware or about to fail. In that case, take the backup of your data and format the drive.
