Is anyone else having this problem? Option + 3 just makes the hash sign. I've tried option + every other key on the keyboard and no pound sign.
Is Apple dumping pounds sterling? Can anyone help?

PS Option + 3 making # indicates your input source is set to British instead of to US. With British you should find £ at Shift + 3.

Go to system prefs/keyboard/input sources and make sure you have only one item on the list, and that it is the one you want.

on iMac late 2013 (latest Mojave) I get £ with option+3
maybe try reboot in save mode:
Hmm. When I use the <option><3> combo on my keyboard (I have a Mac mini with a Logitech keyboard), I get the British Pound sign (£) as expected.
Thanks - I've tried restarting in save mode - still doesn't work. And yes, I'm using the option key.
