Apple App cleaner and uninstaller

I was using Apple Cleaner and Uninstaller to removed a troublesome app when I noticed the category "Remains." I had thought that "Remains" were unwanted and undesirable remnants of incomplete purging of apps. This bothers me because this app shows many "Remains" of various categories. Are they supposed to be deleted, or should I just leave well enough alone? Would deleting all of them possibly be harmful?

  • Oh, that one got through. Oh, and I now concede that this app is not an Apple product. I guess its title somehow confused me into adding an "Apple" at the beginning. However, I DO NOT agree about Cleaners, although I know that this is the "PARTY LINE." CleanMyMac eliminated THREE known problems that I was having and restored my Mac to its original condition. No one and nothing else was able to do that. I might add that my delay in responding to the several comments was simply because I haven't yet learned how to deal with the new procedures/methods for posting here. I hope this doesn't get posted with the words in magenta and orange that I am now seeing.

You’re entitled to your opinion of course, but I recommend you do a search here for cleaners and, if that function is still working at the moment, you will find accounts of such cleaners “bricking” their devices. There is NO party line, it is my own opinion after having one of them hijack my email account, redirecting me to a flashing “you have 8,563 viruses” and literally bricking it unless I clicked on “pay now and we will clean yourMac”. Took me three days to get it back to working.

So, I repeat: I will not let any of them within a mile of any of my Macs. There are other ways to take care of my Mac.

I don’t go to Youtube for any reviews (or any other anonymous, possibly paid for review), but I did check it out partially and I was reminded why I don’t bother with such sites - 95% are a waste of my time.

So, we shall have a difference of opinion. I’ve used Macs for almost 25 years and have never had a need for a “cleaner”. But I also don’t go to questionable sites and purposely avoid youtube, facebook, et al. I prefer my private info not get hacked into or stolen or sold.

babowa, macjac, and Alan Jones,

Although we have areas of disagreement, your replies were all pertinent and courteous. I appreciate that. Too many times I encounter those who are more interested in arguing for its own sake. I don't come her to argue. I come here for help. Thanks again for your courteous, thoughtful, and helpful comments.

Is this the app:

‎App Cleaner & Uninstaller on the Mac App Store

It is not an Apple product, only sold in the Mac App store. Its presence there is neither proof of Apple ownership nor an accreditation by Apple. Note the ownership information in the listing:

You need to contact the developer for assistance but, like the others here, I strongly recommend you never use such products. The macOS has all the cleaning and maintenance functions it needs built in, and stuff like this will slow your computer by competing with the built-in functions.
