Apple Pencil 2 won’t connect!

Hi there, I recently bought an ipad pro 11 inch and the apple pencil 2. However, my apple pencil isn’t able to connect to my ipad. I’ve tried putting it on the magnetic bar on the side of the ipad and the tap to connect sign pops up but it isn’t connected by bluetooth + it doesn’t pop up in the bluetooth setting. Please help, thank you.

hi all, I have followed all suggestions in this forum:

  • restart iPad (unsuccessful)
  • try and pair again (unsuccessful)
  • Reset network settings (unsuccessful)

after all this I did managed to make it pair: after tapping the pair button, which was unsuccessful, I switched off Bluetooth from settings->Bluetooth and switched backed on. The pencil magically paired again!

hope this helps

as a resume, this is the procedure I followed:

  • forget the device (settings->Bluetooth)
  • restart ipad
  • try and pair again
  • reset network settings
  • tap pair
  • switched off and back on Bluetooth (in settings->bluetooth)

it did not work until the last step, cannot say if the last step would work on its own or it would need all the previous steps.

Hope it helps

Good luck

I’ve attempted the above and everything included in this forum. Nothing worked on mine. I had to take mine to the store which confirmed it was the pencil and replaced it since it was still under warranty. The new one he gave me said it’s now under its own 12 month warranty instead of continuing on the last in case it acts up again.

Hi all,

ran into this issue this evening. Seems a relatively easy fix to try is to use the lightening charger attachment accessory that came with your pencil- if you are thinking “???”- it’s in the box, along with the spare tip. I currently have the 1st generation pencil, running a 6th gen iPad. I can’t answer for a pro, but this seems like it would affect both models.

I called and talked to a senior tech. After charging the pencil for about an hour; it paired and all usability was restored. Seems it’s plausible that your battery just may totally drain, either with inconsistent charging, idle use, whatever and the charging port on the iPad may not have enough juice to revive it.

verified in new IOS 12.1.3

hope this helps.

I don’t know if it matters, but I did first go to BT settings and chose forget the device for the apple pencil and revoot prior to reseting network settings. That and a remote session with support, but he didn’t do anything other than lead me to reset the network settings, so I can’t imagine he did anything else. He did count the number of blinks (4) so I’m not sure if the number of blinks has some special meaning to tech support... sorry it’s not working for you all.

So I had this same issue. I tried everything YouTube and different persons here suggested. I traveled for 8 days so I decided to turn off Bluetooth on the tablet and also turn off the tablet. I also left the pencil disconnected from it until I returned. When I returned I turned on the tablet and placed the Apple Pencil on the edge of the tablet. As usual it gave me the prompt “tap to connect”. When I tapped this the pencil connected showing me a pencil battery percentage of 100%. It now works just as it did before.

This happened after not using my tablet or pencil for a week. The pencil was connected to my tablet the whole time since I have a case which allows that. The tablet was also on the whole time so it was impossible for the pencil to be dead.

I hope someone from Apple reads this and finds a way to fix this. I’m now anxious about not using my tablet for multiple days even if I have no reason to use it.
