New iPhone Xs does not sync with Toyota Sienna via bluetooth

I recently purchased an iPhone Xs, and tried to sync it with my 2014 Toyota Sienna. It actually pairs, but then disconnects randomly or stays connected but simply never works. I can't make or receive calls via bluetooth in the car. I have upgraded to the latest version of IOS. Didn't help at all.

However, I can play music from my iPhone over bluetooth and that works fine.

Any ideas???? thanks

I actually went to my dealership and they got it to work. Had to go into the phone menu and connect it there. For whatever reason connecting via the audio menu only connected to iTunes ... but going separately into the phone menu worked. Also upgraded to IOS 12.1.2 and powered down and back up

I have spent several hours stiing in my my 2014 Toyota Sienna attempting to sync up my iPhone XS Max. iTunes syncs up perfectly but not the phone. I have even had a few friends attempt to set up my phone to no avail. I finally ended up taking my van into our local dealership & their phone guru there even attempted it. Still no luck. He got online & searched for vehicle compatibility but wasn't able to locate anything one way or the other. He seemed to think that it's a software issue. He said that Toyota periodically releases updates & the one currently showing is few months old. He was very helpful & told me that I could contact him every month or so to see if an update has been released. Once one is I should be able to bring my van back in & have my radio reprogrammed.

I had the iPhone X prior to purchasing my XS Max & it synched up just fine. Both the phone & iTunes functioned without any problems. Now I'm wishing I had kept it or at least found out that this was what I would be up against.
